Police started with the investigation where they swiftly arrested the suspect on the same day the matter was reported. He is expected to appear at the Tonga Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Wednesday 24 June 2020 facing charges of rape.

In another incident, which occurred at Bushbuckridge between March and June 2020, a 13-year-old girl became a victim of statutory rape involving a 35-year-old man she was apparently in a relationship with.

Information revealed that the girl’s mother tried several times to fetch her daughter from the man’s house but she’d always go back.

The matter was reported to the police following the mother’s several attempts to get her daughter back.

A case of Statutory Rape was opened and preliminary investigations have since revealed that the man had been living with the girl at Health Centre Trust near Bushbuckridge since March 2020. The suspect was arrested today, 23 June 2020 and is expected to appear at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Wednesday 24 June 2020.

The Provincial Commissioner of South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Zuma has expressed his disappointment, as these men were supposed to play a father-figure role to the young girls but instead took advantage and violated them.

Photographers could also not travel easily and had to resort to either digging into their archives or to find new ways of practising their hobby.

The club however, came up with the idea of continuing their monthly judging.

Judges could remotely few the entries for the month. This is not a new concept but was usually reserved for larger competitions.

Here is a selection of photographs for the month of June 2020.

Provincial Commissioner strongly condemns domestic violence incidents 2 police officers committed

0

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma has strongly condemned incidents of domestic violence involving members of the SAPS at Embalenhle and Breyten respectively.

In the incident which occurred at Breyten, a 45-year-old police Sergeant is alleged to have shot and killed his 35-year-old wife as well as injured her two brothers before turning the gun on himself, earlier yesterday, 21 June 2020.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old female Constable was assaulted, allegedly by the father of her child who is also a police Constable.

This incident took place during the early hours of Saturday morning, 20 June 2020, at Embalenhle whilst both members were off duty.

According to information, in the shooting incident which took place at Breyten, the officer who was stationed at Hendrina SAPS, reportedly got into a heated argument with his wife on Saturday, prompting her to move out.

She asked her brothers to accompany her to fetch her belongings yesterday, however upon arriving at the house, a scuffle broke out. The member allegedly drew his firearm, shot and injured her brothers and took his wife into the house where he fatally shot her and then turned the gun on himself.

Police and medical personnel were summoned to the scene and upon arrival found the Sergeant and his wife lying in a pool of blood motionless and they were both certified dead.

Police opened a case of murder, two counts of attempted murder as well as an inquest. The two surviving victims were rushed to hospital for medical assistance.

In the incident which occurred at Embalenhle, it was reported that the female officer woke up during the early hours of Saturday morning and went to report to the 34-year-old father of the child (male officer) that the child was sick.

An argument broke out between the two thereafter, which apparently led to the assault.

Police opened a case of Assault with intent to cause Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) and the suspect was arrested, charged accordingly as well as his service firearm seized.

The Provincial Commissioner is deeply disturbed by the two incidents more so as they were allegedly committed by police officers and are regrettable.

He has reiterated that people should refrain from using violence to resolve domestic issues.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Zuma also indicated that the police management view the two incidents in a very serious light and warn other members not to emulate any unlawful act which has a potential to tarnish the image of the police.

“As the police, we have our Employee Health and Wellness Unit which members can use whenever they experience any personal issues and their services are readily available as well as accessible to all members. We cannot allow a situation where Gender-Based-Violence is perpetuated by members within our ranks especially during this period where there has been a public outcry of such incidents and members should be there to remedy the situation not to exacerbate the already unacceptable pressure,” said General Zuma.

The new colours for rally car #66 were revealed on Friday. Team Natie’s car now proudly displays the colours of its main sponsor, Graceland!

Interview with Pieter de Villiers, GM of Graceland (clip from main video)

Gone are the days of the familiar yellow Ford 1600, make way for the new red and white Ford 1600.

Team Natie, with driver Jan Booysen and navigator Johan Smit is sure to continue building on their successes with the new colours of red and white.

Interview with Jan (Natie) Booysen (Clip from Full video)

Graceland has been involved in several sponsorships and partnerships over the past few years. There is a boxing academy that is run and started by Graceland, more recently Graceland sponsored Hydroponic tunnels at Marietjie school. This sponsorship of the iconic 1968 Ford 1600 will further expose their community involvement. Thank you to Graceland for supporting local talents.

Only a handful attended the unveiling of the new colours due to the Coronavirus restrictions, but it was met with great enthusiasm.

No rally took place this year as the lockdown put an end to all sport at that stage. There are talks of a rally in the next few weeks, but no final date has been set so far.  Motorsport SA has written a letter to parliament to ask for clarity on resuming the rally’s, but no response has been received yet.

Motorsport wrote the following statement:

COVID-19 COMMUNIQUE

June 12, 2020

As many motorsport stakeholders will be aware, the so-called “directions” for the resumption of sport under Level 3 Lockdown, referred to in MSA’s most recent communique, were published late yesterday (11 June).

ALSO WATCH: Graceland Initiated a Hydroponic tunnel project at Marietjie School

Although the fact that motorsport has received one mention in the published directions – albeit only in relation to the resumption of training by professional athletes – is cause for some cautious optimism, the reality is that the published directions change very little for motorsport as we know it in South Africa.

ALSO WATCH: Start of Lake Umuzi Rally 2018

The directions only refer to professional athletes, i.e. those who earn an income from competing as defined in clause 2 a) on page 2 of the directions. As is well known, this definition only applies to a handful of motorsport competitors.

In terms of sub-clause 5) on page 5 of the directions “Only non-contact professional sports bodies listed in Annexure A may resume matches.” MSA is unfortunately not one of the bodies listed in Annexure A.

In terms of the directions, no training or competition whatsoever may take place in designated hotspot areas. Much, if not most, of South African motorsport, takes place in areas currently designated by government as hotspots.

MSA is very disappointed by the contents of the published directions surrounding sport, particularly in light of the submission it had already made to government.  This being said, MSA will continue to engage with government in an ongoing effort to achieve a resumption of local motorsport as soon as possible in a safe and responsible manner.
