The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, has commended police for their swift response in arresting a 28-year-old suspect for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Machadadorp, on Friday 10 July 2020.
Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma
Preliminary investigations revealed that the 28-year-old man, who works for a delivery company, allegedly raped the girl at her home.
The suspect apparently went to the victim’s house to deliver a parcel and upon realising that she was alone, raped her.
He called the mother of the victim and explained everything.
The mother summoned the police to come with her to her house and the suspect was arrested at the scene.
He is expected to appear at the Belfast Periodical Court tomorrow, Monday, 13 July 2020.
Meanwhile, on 30 June 2020, the Nelspruit Regional Court, sentenced 31-year-old Bongani Kubhayi to 33 years imprisonment for various brutal crimes he committed against a 64-year-old woman.
Out of the 33 years, 10 were for rape, 15 for robbery with aggravating circumstances, 5 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and 3 years for house breaking.
The court has directed that all the counts run concurrently with the robbery charge for the purpose of sentence.
He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm and his name will be registered in the national sex offenders register.
The sentences spiral from an incident where Kubhayi on 27 July 2013 broke into the house belonging to the victim, raped her, assaulted her and robbed her of her personal belongings before absconding the scene.
General Zuma has welcomed the sentence and indicated that it will serve as a deterrent to other criminals. He also appreciated the quick arrest of the Machadodorp suspect.
1 And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.
2 And I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpets.
3 And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.
4 And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand.
5 And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.
6 And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.
8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
13 And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!

LOSMAKERVRAAG: Wat is jou gunsteling genre of tipe rolprent?
‘n onderliggende tema of boodskap.
1. Watter woorde of stellings word gereeld herhaal? In die meeste gevalle, wanneer ‘n skrywer sekere woorde of stellings gereeld herhaal sê dit die skrywer wil iets kom beklemtoon wat vir hom/haar belangrik is.
3. Wat is relevant daarvan vir my lewe vandag?M.a.w. wat van die tema of hoofboodskap van hierdie boek of brief kan ek toepas en deel maak van my alledaagse lewe?
So, met hierdie vrae in gedagte kom ons gaan lees nou ‘n gedeelte in 1 Joh.4:16; 18-21.
1 JOHANNES 4:16-21 NLV
1. Watter woorde of stellings word gereeld herhaal?
So, goeie vraag wat ek by jou wil los, wat jy hierdie week saam met jou kan vat is: WAT VERWAG LIEFDE VAN MY?M.a.w.
Hoekom sê jy so?
Hoekom sê jy so?
Die Here vra vrae…
Die Here vra jou, wie?
Hier is baie opinies.
Is hy Godsdiens, is hy deel van ‘n geloofsbelydenis – stop Jesus by; Ek glo in hom?
Of is Jesus jou lewe?Paulus – My lewe is Christus
Wie sê jy is ek?
Pretoria: 11 July 2020 – At approximately 3:00 am this morning, various disciplines of the South African Police Service followed by members of the South African National Defence Force responded to reports of a shooting and an alleged hostage situation at the International Pentecostal Holiness Church in Zuurbekom, a town in the West Rand in the Gauteng Province, South Africa.
A group of armed people came to the Modise church and allegedly attacked people who were inside indicating that they were coming to take over the premises.
Police have arrested over 40 suspects including six people who have been taken to hospital.
Police are investigating the possibility that this attack may have been motivated by a feud between conflicted parties of the Church.
Four people were found shot and burnt to death in a car while a fifth victim, a security guard, was also fatally shot in his car while he was apparently attending this complaint.
Police have arrested over 40 suspects including six people who have been taken to hospital. Among those arrested are members of SAPS, SANDF, JMPD and the Department of Correctional Services.
Over 34 firearms including five riffles, 16 short guns and 13 pistols have also been seized.
Over 34 firearms including five riffles, 16 short guns and 13 pistols have also been seized.
The crime scene is still being processed and the figures of arrests and firearms seized may fluctuate as the Special Task Force, Tactical Response Team and Visible Policing members continue to comb the compound.
These Units have also rescued men, women and children who are said to be living in the compound and were being held hostage.
The National Commissioner of Police General Khehla John Sitole has praised the Provincial SAPS Management and Gauteng team for their prompt response to this attack.
“I am certain that the speedy response by the joint security forces has averted what could have been a more severe blood bath,” said General Sitole.
“I have tasked the Provincial management to finalise its preliminary investigations in the quickest possible time and ensure that the 72-hour Activation Plan is mobilised to bring to book all those responsible for this attack”, added General Sitole.
“I have embarked on a Spiritual Crime Prevention Concept which involves the participation of all religious denominations in the fight against crime. It is rather unfortunate that such an incident takes place during a time when South Africa is being plagued by a deadly virus and violent crimes,” concluded General Sitole.
Yesterday, 9 July Sasol handed over the renovated community parks and also safety equipment to the Govan Mbeki Municipality at the Sasol Community Centre in Kinross.
Sasol has always pride itself on investing in the community. Sasol has been investing in communities for more than 30 years.
With Sasol’s stellar reputation of ensuring that they support and promote projects such as health and welfare, education and skills development and environment and community safety, the renovation of the parks were right up their alley.
The Kinross Community Park was an eye sore for all. The park was neglected for many years and even though the community tried to renovate, it was a struggle.
In 2017 the renovation of the Kinross Community Park was given the go ahead and the first phase of renovations started in January 2020.
Two local SMMEs (Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises) were contracted, Mkhalamuni Construction and Waka Holdings. Ricky B was appointed as a subcontractor.
These two local SMMEs used local labour to ensure the growth of the local economy and that also ensured that they created local jobs.
Sasol supported these contractors by providing technical support and to ensure the project is finished within the timeframe given and according to specifications so that the community can enjoy the park.
The first phase of the project included:
Refurbishing the existing ablution facilities and storerooms
Repairing playground equipment, existing stormwater inlets and spillway structures
Installing an outdoor chess set, braai stands, a mini soccer pitch and a tall light mast to increase visibility at night for security purposes
Clearing vegetation
The entrance of the park was also upgraded to help control public and vehicle access
Sasol’s Vice President Secunda Corporate Affairs, Mrs Mashudu Ndou, Executive Mayor, Cllr Thandi Ngxonono, Municipal Manager, Mr Felanie Mndebele and Ward Councillor, Cllr Rose Nkabinde all visited the park to see the amazing renovations and upgrades that have been done.
Upon arrival the first thing to do was the ribbon cutting. The ribbon was cut by Mrs Mashudu Ndou, Vice President Secunda Corporate Affairs and Executive Mayor, Cllr Thandi Ngxonono.
Cheers erupted from the small group that attended the ceremony as the ribbon was cut and fell to the ground.

The small group was taken on a tour of the newly renovated Kinross Community Park.
The dam was cleaned and no reeds in sight, the rocks were painted, braai stands were erected, a chess set and outdoor gym installed.
But the biggest surprise of all was the newly renovated bathrooms.
The last time The Bulletin saw the bathrooms, they were in a state of disrepair. This time around the bathrooms were cleaned up and all facilities working.
The Executive Mayor was extremely impressed with the renovations and at the end of the tour the handover papers were signed and the keys handed over to the Govan Mbeki Municipality.
Municipal Manager, Mr Felanie Mndebele receiving the parks keys from Mrs Mashudu Ndou, Vice President Secunda Corporate Affairs
Sasol also handed over much needed COVID-19 safety equipment to the Govan Mbeki Municipality to sanitise all their facilities.
The safety equipment handed over:
5 8 Litre Pressure Sprayers
200 (XL and XXL) Tyvek suits
32 Presept Disinfectant Bottles
14 Dräger half filter masks with canisters
55 Uvex Safety Glasses
200 Disposable Plastic Aprons
12 sets of Hazmat Gloves
24 Sanifog Disinfectant Spray Bottles
100 FFP1 Face Masks
Municipal Manager, Mr Felanie Mndebele, Executive Mayor, Cllr Thandi Ngxonono and Mrs Mashudu Ndou, Vice President Secunda Corporate Affairs
Except for these donations, Sasol has also been donating much needed resources to assist in the effort to flatten the curve. These donations include:
Three mobile science laboratory vehicles, fuelled by Sasol loaned to the Department of Health to assist with community screening and testing, in partnership with Sasol Education flagship programme Osizweni Science Centre and the Sasol Foundation
Provision of 10 administrators to assist in the department with data capturing
Provision of more than 40 000 litres of sanitiser to stakeholders around Gert Sibande District and beyond to various departments and schools
Donation of toiletries – including face cloths, soap, shower gel, tooth brushes and toothpaste – to homeless people who are currently housed at the shelter at the Kinross Golf Club Lapa in Govan Mbeki Municipality to assist people living on the street and to help curb the spread of COVID-19
“As a responsible and caring corporate citizen, we fully recognise our duty and deeper responsibility to continue supporting our fence line communities and society at large, in these challenging and uncertain times,” said Mrs Mashudu Ndou, Vice President Secunda Corporate Affairs.
She continued: “Working hand-in-hand with a broad range of social partners – in particular government, civil society and our fence line communities – we are driving our response efforts to equip and support our communities, our schools and those on the frontline of fighting the pandemic. We have also partnered with GMM to ensure upgrading of our recreational facility in preparation for a time when we will see families having picnics and children playing in the parks again.”
During a recent council meeting the Govan Mbeki Municipality {GMM) adopted a Proposal from the Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) regarding the escalating Eskom problems in Bethal.
Bethal and eMzinoni had been bearing the brunt of the outstanding Eskom debt when Eskom refused to lift the Notified Maximum Demand, plunging most of the area into darkness.
The Bulletin reported several times about protests that took place, in eMzinoni, against the continual power cuts.
Not only do residents have to contend with the Load Shedding from Eskom they also have to try and cope with electrical equipment and infrastructure failures. These failures are due to the ageing infrastructure and lack of maintenance from GMM.
Cllr Thandiwe Nxgonono, Executive mayor of GMM also announced an R12m injection into the Bethal/eMzinoni infrastructure for upgrades. This will be funded by both GMM (R10m) and GSDM (R2m). It is unclear when the upgrades will begin.
Many have seen the involvement of GSDM as a quick fix to the Bethal/eMzinoni problems.
There are even messages stating that GMM already started to pay GSDM and that the problems will be a thing of the past at the end of July. This is not true and misleading.
The Bulletin spoke to Opposition Leader in the GMM council, Cllr Ciska Jordaan regarding the issue. Cllr Jordaan serves on both municipalities.
Ciska explained that there are processes that must be followed and completed before anything can be achieved. One such problem is that R30m has to be paid to GSDM to be used as a gesture of goodwill by GSDM to negotiate an agreement with Eskom.
Here is the resolution that was proposed and adopted.
RECOMMENDATION:
1. That the intent of the Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) to assist the Govan Mbeki Municipality to turn around the management of the electricity supply at Bethal and eMzinoni BE ACKNOWLEDGED and ACCEPTED.
2. That it BE ACKNOWLEDGED and ACCEPTED that the Gert Sibande District Municipality confirmed its availability and the willingness to assist with the management of the electricity distribution at Bethal and eMzinoni for a period of 5 years starting from July 2020.
3. That the Gert Sibande District Municipality BE APPOINTED as Implementing Agent (IA) and that a Service Level Agreement be entered into between the two municipalities within seven days after the appointment is concluded.
4. That the electricity affairs of Bethal and eMzinoni BE RING-FENCED for the Gert Sibande District Municipality to appoint a service provider at their risk to inject capital funding and turn around the electricity business.
5. That the Gert Sibande District Municipality CONSIDER the recommendations by NERSA, the master plan that was compiled by SASOL and any other financial and technical advises and records available when compiling the terms of reference of the service provider to be appointed.
6. That this intervention by the Gert Sibande District Municipality BE TREATED as a pilot and should it produces the expected improvement, it be extended to other two regions within the jurisdiction of the municipality.
7. That the municipality RAISE the bridging finance that would be negotiated by Gert Sibande District Municipality with Eskom to ensure that the business operations are not affected while waiting for the long-term financing option to be finalized through the bidding process.
Please note point seven of the resolution taken. This point clearly states that there are still negotiations that need to be finalised.
Ciska also explained the continual pressure and actions that the DA has taken concerning the Eskom problem in GMM. “The Eskom issue has been fought on many fronts during the past few years. We have tried in our council, only to be overturned every time with the ANC majority. The issue was then escalated to the provincial legislature but that brought no results. It is now on the table of Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. So far, we had no response from her, although the deadline past already.”
Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has continually made suggestions and proposals in the Council to address the problem to no avail. The ANC led majority refuses to allow any suggestion, proposal, or motion to be accepted when it does not originate from within their own ranks”, Said Cllr Ciska Jordaan, Caucus leader of the DA in GMM.
The Eskom debt slowly grew from approximately R100m in 2011 to R524m in 2018. The Bulletin placed an article on July 6, 2018, quoting James Masangu stating the R524m debt. GMM took 7 years to grow that debt from R100m to R524m, it took only another two years to increase the debt to a staggering R1,9B.
Embalenhle have been asking for a long time to pay Eskom direct and after the Riots where Emba mall was nearly destroyed, they were promised that their power supply will be transferred to Eskom. This promise was made by the premier when he visited the area at the time.
Eskom refused to do this due to the outstanding GMM debt.
Only time will tell if the current interventions by GSDM will be successful.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma has welcomed a hefty sentence meted against a rapist this week. This comes after the Mhala Regional Court on Tuesday, 07 July 2020, sentenced a 31-year-old man to life imprisonment for rape.
The accused raped his seven year old stepdaughter in 2018.
The court heard how the accused arrived home on that day, 22 February 2018 to find that the victim was asleep. He ordered his other 4-year-old stepdaughter to stand at the door and guard for his wife.
The ordeal was later uncovered by neighbours when they noticed the girl limping as she was walking back home from school. They became worried and asked her what was wrong, at which she disclosed what had happened, the neighbours informed her mother, however, she dismissed them.
The neighbours took it upon themselves to report the matter to the police and the suspect was arrested on 23 February 2018, at Kgwaditiba Trust in Green Valley near Bushbuckridge where the incident happened.
The suspect was granted R 1000 bail while the two girls were relocated to a place of safety. The investigation went unhindered until this year February when the accused was convicted of rape however, sentencing was withheld until Tuesday.
When passing sentence, Magistrate Annemarie Theron indicated that the suspect showed no remorse and still denied what he had done to the child. She also read parts of the social workers’ report, which revealed that the victim now suffers from urinary inconsistency as a result of the rape.
Magistrate Theron also declared the accused unfit to possess a firearm and that his name will be entered in the national register for sex offenders.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma has commended the sterling work done by the Department of Justice, NPA as well as the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit members in ensuring that overwhelming evidence is brought against the accused which has led to the maximum sentence.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma
General Zuma also appreciated the community for not taking the law into their own hands but reported the matter to the police.
“In welcoming the sentence, I feel delighted that another rapist has been removed from the society and that the sentencing will send a strong message to Gender Based Violence perpetrators,” said General Zuma.
All communities serviced by the Emzinoni Police Station are advised that this police station will be temporarily closed due to one member who tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.
The Community Service Centre will now be operated at Emzinoni Lethithemba Drop In Centre situated on 9th Street.
To access the station, the community should call 0824622836, alternatively the Station Commander, Captain Frederick Viviers at 0824530212 or the Visible Commander, Warrant Officer Sbusiso Mbuli at 0824620878 for all emergencies and complaints which will be attended to accordingly.
The telephone lines at Emzinoni Police Station will not be accessible for the duration of the closure, however, service delivery will not be hampered.
The building will be decontaminated and normal services will resume on Saturday, 11 July 2020.
In March this year, Sasol launched a crisis response plan when significant internal and external issues, both short and long-term in nature, compelled the company to reset. In the short term, two critical factors spurred the crisis response plan. First, as the COVID-19 storm emerged, collapsing oil prices and product demand in its wake, Sasol’s financial position was already under severe pressure. The company’s balance sheet is heavily geared at the moment due to the additional spend that was required to complete the LCCP (Lake Charles Chemical Plant). With high debt levels the company cannot pay dividends or invest in new growth opportunities, and the ability to withstand market shocks, like COVID-19, is weakened.
Second, the market is extremely volatile. In South Africa and other parts of the world, Sasol has seen a dramatic fall in product prices and witnessed a steep decline in demand due to lockdowns and stay-at-home orders in effect in many parts of the world. The need to restore Financial stability is what has driven Sasol to implement self-help measures over the past few months and review its strategy going forward.
One of the measures implemented was to postpone the Secunda Synfuels Operations annual shutdown. All necessary statutory maintenance work was completed during May this year which allows Secunda Synfuels Operations to postpone the shutdown to September 2021. In Secunda Chemicals Operations, only minor shutdown work will continue at the Monomers and Polymers plants with the rest of the work also moving out to 2021.
It is important to note that the challenges confronting Sasol go well beyond the short-term. As recently as last year, Sasol used to plan on a US$60 per barrel oil price. Now, the company needs to plan for a sustainable Sasol in a US$45 environment. This is a very significant change. Many of Sasol’s assets are also at risk of diminishing returns. What this means is that with lower oil prices and higher feedstock costs, the company faces the risk of lower returns on invested capital. Sasol has therefore also implemented a new strategy for long-term value creation which will fundamentally change its operating model going forward.
As the company transitions into a new future, there will still be many challenges to face, however, Sasol is progressing towards a simpler, more agile company that is focused and well-positioned to deliver long-term sustainable value to all its stakeholders
