5 APPEAR IN COURT – PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER WARNS PUBLIC TO DESIST FROM PLAYING WITH FIREARMS AT FUNERALS

0

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, has strongly warned the public to desist from the tendency of playing with firearms at funerals.

The General uttered yet another warning following a court appearance of five men on 05 October 2020, after their arrest on 4 October on allegations of discharging firearms at a funeral in Belfast near Hazyview.

The suspects are alleged to have caused a stir amongst mourners when they unashamedly drew firearms and fired shots. Their actions led law abiding citizens to alert authorities about their behaviour which was plainly displayed by a group of five lawless men driving in a blue VW Golf.

The Tactical Response Team members followed the information with necessary caution and spotted the vehicle parked at one of the local taverns.

The TRT members approached the vehicle tactically as well as searched its occupants and recovered two unlicensed firearms with ammunition.

Police immediately arrested the five suspects hence their appearance at the Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court.

The villains were remanded in custody until Monday, 12 October 2020, where they are expected to apply for bail.

The suspects are facing charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition as well as discharging firearms in a public space. The police cannot rule out a possibility of adding more charges in relation to the seized firearms as investigations are underway.

General Zuma has in the meantime strongly condemned the alleged unlawful behaviour displayed by the men, let alone at a funeral procession which ordinarily requires a highly dignified manner.

“We cannot tolerate this odd behaviour which has become like a norm recently where people randomly fire shots at funerals. We are sending a stern warning to those who will in the near future take a cue and emulate the despicable activities done by these arrested men. There are a number of suspects who have been arrested at two other funerals that took place around the areas where the recent suspects were arrested.  These arrests are indicative of the fact that the community is tired of the disrespectful behaviour by certain individuals. We will not hesitate to come hard on you and you will surely face the full might of the law,” said General Zuma.

Heritage day, A day to remember for SADFA members

Members of South African Defence Force Association (SADFA) sector 2, Brandwach gathered on Heritage Day at the Bikers church for a sermon.

The usual 2,4 run could not take place due to the COVID-19 restrictions. The 2,4 run/walk is a way to remember the fellowship that members of the defence force experienced. It also symbolises the hardship that soldiers must endure to become efficient soldiers.

The memorial service was followed with a braai at the MOTH’s shell hole.

The day was enjoyed by all that attended.

The next SADFA breakfast will be on Saturday 10 October at the Kruik Cafe.

These breakfasts are a good time to get to know the members as well as getting information from the Sector Commander.

Hinterland nou Afgri in Mpumalanga

Romans 14:17-18 King James Version

14 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.

For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.

Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.

Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself.

For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.

For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.

10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.

12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.

14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

15 But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.

16 Let not then your good be evil spoken of:

17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

18 For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.

19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

20 For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.

21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

22 Hast thou faith?

Preeknotas + Besprekingsvrae: http://bible.com/events/42417714

Ek soek baie goed… Bmw… tekkies… dark chocklate…

Hierdie is baie geestelik…

Maak my soeke stil… gee vir my van hierdie water…

Dis jou grootste soeke of begeerte…

Wildtuin… stadig… kyk… wow…

Trouble brewing at local LED Forum?

0

Are the local LED Forum functioning properly?

The Bulletin was invited to a GMM Local Economic Development (LED) Forum meeting earlier this week by members of the Ithemba Lesizwe Movement.

It was clear that the presence of the media upset member of the LED Forum.

The meeting immediately erupted into an argument between elected members of the LED Forum and representatives of the Ithemba Lesizwe Movement.

The members asked for a caucus after which they decided not to continue with the meeting.

The Bulletin met with the representatives of the Ithemba Lesizwe Movement to obtain their press release. We were not able to obtain one from the Forum yet but will endeavour to obtain one from them.

A Tennis coach and a wheelchair tennis player taking 1 community by storm

0

In our community there is a community most people choose to ignore or if they do see them, just look away. This community would be our disabled community.

In the beginning of the year, a voice of calm in the silence called out into the never-ending rush of what is life. Lezahn Greeff, neé Boshoff, heard the voice and answered its call.

Lezahn grew up in Secunda and has always been passionate about tennis. So passionate that she turned it into her career as a tennis coach.

READ ALSO: Montjane to return to competitive tennis

The voice of calm in the silence was the voice of one Susan van Niekerk. Susan was in a car accident when she was a young girl. The car accident is the cause that she is a paraplegic today.

When I met Susan, the first thing I saw was one of the biggest, warmest smiles one can imagine. She is an incredibly intelligent and welcoming young woman.

Susan van Niekerk on the court

It was Susan’s plight that Lezahn heard in the beginning of the year and by the end of February coach and tennis player were on the court training.

Susan is Lezahn’s first disabled player but nothing could or can stop these two phenomenal women.

Lezahn contacted Tennis SA during the lockdown and asked for assistance and direction from the organisation. Her call was answered by Tennis SA.

Patrick Selepe visited Secunda to teach player and coach some tips and tricks to perform at top levels in wheelchair tennis.

Patrick Selepe on the tennis court teaching Susan and Lezahn some tips and tricks

Patrick is well-known in the tennis world as he was the first official with a disability to work as a chair umpire in the South African Davis Cup competition in 2015.

Patrick is also a retired wheelchair tennis player and has been involved in the development of the sport.

On the day Patrick visited Secunda, he did not hold back on coaching and advice. He let Susan go through different drills and would stop and calmly (and excitedly) talk her through the drill again, all while including Lezahn in the training.

He would show the difference one little adjustment would make in Susan’s training and make sure that Lezahn understood why the adjustment made such a difference.

Susan looks up to Mariska Venter. Mariska was the same age as Susan when she started playing tennis and by the time she was 18, she was ranked no. 1 in the world for U/18 junior girls and currently she is ranked second in South African Women’s Wheelchair tennis.

Susan is definitely not far behind in following in her hero’s footsteps…

Since 2005, Wheelchair Tennis South Africa was a separate entity from Tennis South Africa but on the 1st of July 2019, Tennis South Africa took over and started managing the programme. The wheelchair tennis programme in South Africa is considered as a universal success story by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

Lezahn and Susan are working extremely hard to bring awareness of this sport into the community.

Susan in action

In order for Lezahn and Susan to receive funding from Tennis SA, Lezahn will need five students to train and Susan will need 4 team mates to practice with and against. One of the amazing things Tennis SA will also do once more children and adults from the community are involved, is to donate the wheelchairs needed to play tennis in.

One of these wheelchairs costs around $ 2000.00 which is about R 33 000.00.

This is not a blithe but rather a remedy to the community at large… A remedy because Susan is teaching us that no matter what life throws your way, you can always beat the odds and fight back!

So is die Lewe: You’ve got problems

0

Titel is “You’ve got problems”

In my tyd (en nou klink ek soos ‘n ou man) was daar egter een struikelblokkie voordat jy die Kerk kon gaan tref: twee jaar diensplig.

Go see Chaplain Britz.”

Hy is my regterhand tydens die eerste kapelaansperiode, waar maklik 1000 troepe teenwoordig is.

Wanneer ‘n klomp troepe vir basiese opleiding in ‘n kamp ingebondel word, kry jy alle tipes mense. Sommige is uitsmyters in ‘n bordeel in Boksburg, andere weer het ‘n doktorsgraad in kernfisika. So, die konflikpotensiaal is hoog.

Tydens ‘n driemaandekamp iewers in die bos was daar een man wat by voorbaat geëien was as potensiële probleem.

Rina Hugo – Troepie Doepie

Punt. Sy uitstaande kenmerk was sy reusagtige snor.

Alles is in rep en roer. Operasie VIP skop in volle erns af.

You got problems,” onthou ek my kollega van Walmmansthall se woorde.

3 SUSPECTS ARE DUE TO APPEAR IN COURT FOR ALLEGED FARM ATTACK, MURDER AND HOUSE ROBBERY

0

Three ruthless men are due to appear before the Delmas Magistrate’s Court after being arrested for allegedly plotting a farm attack which left a woman dead.

The suspects also robbed the family of their belongings in this horrific incident which occurred yesterday, Wednesday 30 September 2020 at Sundra near Delmas.

According to preliminary investigations, on the said day, Chantel Kershaw, aged 44, was preparing to resume her daily duties on the farm.

She informed her employee to assist her in loading a lawn mower into the bakkie and that is when she saw two armed men inside the yard. The men are said to have instructed the employee to take off his clothes before tying him up and further told him to lie down.

The suspects attacked the woman despite her screaming for help, allegedly strangled her to death and went to the house where they assaulted Kershaw’s mom with a firearm.

As if that was not enough, the suspects helped themselves to the victims’ belongings and locked a female employee in the bathroom before fleeing the scene in a white Chevrolet LDV bakkie that they stole from the family.

Kershaw’s mom alerted the neighbourhood watch team about what had happened.

Police also received information and whilst on their way, a high-speed chase ensued between the suspects and the neighbourhood watch group which resulted in the vehicle driven by the suspects overturning at the R50 road near Delmas.

The suspects crawled out of the car and tried to escape but were caught shortly thereafter. They were both handed over to the police who arrested them.

The police opened a case of murder and robbery where they conducted their probe which led them recovering a firearm inside the overturned vehicle.

A firearm magazine with ammunition was also recovered at the place where one of the suspects was hiding. Other items found there include belongings which police believe were stolen from the victims and further than that, a jacket which had blood stains was also seized.

Police continued with their investigation and arrested a third man, aged 40.

This man is an employee at the farm who was earlier made to take off his clothes. It surfaced that all the drama of the man being tied up was nothing else but an act.

The police believe that he too was part of the plot to murder Kershaw as well as to steal the belongings.

The three are expected to appear at the Delmas Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 02 October 2020.

The suspects are also facing additional charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as possession of suspected stolen property.

The Provincial Commissioner of South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma has strongly condemned the farm attack.

Bethal vegetable garden gets shade cloth

Bethal vegetable garden gets shade cloth

On 30 September, the AfriForum branch in Bethal started to erect the first shade cloths to cover 1 000 m² of the soil that was prepared for its vegetable garden project. The purpose of the project is to provide food to poor families in the community in a sustainable manner.

Vegetables are planted in four cycles to ensure a steady supply throughout the year. Although the project was planned before the lockdown, the lockdown demonstrated that self-do projects like these are more important than ever before.

shade nets at garden

“The project is based on the principle that it is better to teach people to fish, rather than to give them fish. Food must be produced in a sustainable, self-reliant manner to support people in times of need. It is especially in testing times that donors struggle to keep ahead,” says Marilé Nieuwoudt, Secretary of AfriForum’s Bethal branch.

People who want to contribute to this project or would like to get involved can phone Hennie Bekker on 081 217 6091. There is still a need for equipment and other goods for the project to make headway.

Bethal-groentetuin kry nette
