Misty Waters 2020 Postponed

With the recent outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on Sunday, 15 March, to ensure the nation what the government’s plans are to avoid a bigger outbreak in South Africa.

The President said in his speech: “Never before in the history of our democracy has our country been confronted with such a severe situation.”

“From the start of the outbreak in China earlier this year, the South African government has put in place measures to screen visitors entering the country, to contain its spread and to treat those infected,” continued President Ramaphosa.

The President continued to explain all the measures that were put in place effective immediately. Some of them were:

“Therefore, to encourage social distancing Cabinet has decided on these additional measures:

  • Gatherings of more than 100 people will be prohibited.
  • Mass celebrations of upcoming national days such as Human Rights Day and other large government events will be cancelled.
  • Where small gatherings are unavoidable, organisers will need to put in place stringent measures of prevention and control.”

The Bulletin has spoken to the organisers of Misty Waters and the following press release was issued by Rolin Booysen:

Following Pres. Ramaphosa’s announcement, on 15 March 2020, regarding the COVID – 19 outbreak in South Africa, we have no choice but to postpone Misty Waters 2020.

Even though the possibility exists that the ban may be lifted before 30 April (start of Misty Waters Music Festival 2020), there will not be enough time to restart the planning process. We are following the limitations, set out by the government, to ensure the safety of the festies as well as the artists and staff of the festival.

The new date for Misty Waters 2020 will be the Women’s Day long weekend of 7 to 9 August 2020, given that the State of Emergency be lifted. Follow us on social media to stay informed.

We appreciate your commitment to the South African Music Scene. We are willing to refund festival tickets and accommodation paid if you are not able to attend the new date of 7 to 9 August 2020. For those avid rockers who wish to keep their festival ticket and accommodation booking secure, we will transfer tickets and accommodation to the new date.

As much as we would have liked to keep the party going, we must adhere and respect the Government’s decision. Be safe, wash your hands and stay healthy. In the meantime keep listening to our Spotify Playlist to keep your excitement going ‘til August.
