Die Bulletin het met Johann Du Preez, voorsitter van die Suid Afrikaanse Weermag Vereeniging gesêls om bietjie meer uit te vind waarom mens sou aansluit by so ‘n organisasie.

Die SAWV is dié veterane organisasie wat jou as veteraan die optimale geleenthede bied om êrens te kan behoort, deel te neem aan herdenkingsgeleenthede, versorg te word en wat jou verseker van beslissende inspraak tot op die hoogste vlak.
1) Die SAWV Grondwet: Soos uiteengesit in sy Grondwet onderneem die SAWV om onder andere:
- in belang van al ons lede op te tree en om die belange van ons lede binne en buite die Vereniging te bevorder;
- sigbare erkenning te verleen vir dienste gelewer;
- die kameraderie tussen al ons lede te hernu en te bevorder;
- die geestelike en materiële belange van ons lede te beskerm;
- doeltreffende skakeling en kommunikasie op alle vlakke tussen alle lede te skep.
2) Infrastruktuur en Doelwitte: Die SAWV het ‘n deeglike 5 jaar plan wat op bogenoemde fokus deur:
- goeie administrasie, kommunikasie en die verspreiding van inligting;
- ‘n voltydse kantoor met administratiewe personeel te bedryf;
- effektiewe bemarking te doen en lede te werf;
- Sektore en Eenhede landswyd te stig;
- die benutting van die kundigheid, ervaring en kontakte van alle lede.
3) Wat bied die SAWV? Ons gee erkenning aan ons lede deur die volgende te bied:
- ‘n Tuiste vir alle militêre veterane waar kameraadskap hernu en bevorder word m.b.v. verskeie projekte;
- die skep van ‘n ondersteuningsbasis d.m.v. ons Sektore en Eenhede;
- gedenkdienste, funksies en ander geleenthede;
- die geleentheid om aan gemeenskapsprojekte deel te neem en jou omgewing ‘n beter plek te maak;
- die geleentheid om as ‘n leier van ‘n Sektor of Eenheid te dien en dus ‘n leier in jou gemeenskap te wees;
- seremoniële diens by begrafnisse van lede; hulp aan ons lede t.o.v. die registrasie op die Departement van Militêre Veterane (DMV) databasis asook die aansoek vir voordele soos voorsien deur die Militêre Veterane Wet 2011 (Wet 18 van 2011);
- die soek na werksgeleenthede vir ons lede d.m.v. ons plasingsagentskap;
- opleiding aan Eenheidslede t.o.v. die optimale aanwending van die Gemeenskapspolisieringsforum-stelsel (GPF) vir
- gebiedsbeskerming en die voorkoming van misdaad;
- hulp om jou uitstaande of verlore medaljes te kry;
- mediese versekering met lae tariewe;
- hulp met die stig van “Co-Ops” vir toegang tot kapitaal;
- opleiding in besigheidsontwikkelilng;
- besigheidsgeleenthede;
- voordele wat deurlopend beding word.
4) SAWV Lidmaatskap: Die lidmaatskapfooi beloop R200.00 per jaar. Almal wat tussen 1946 en 11 Mei 1994 in diens was van die UVM of/en die SAW, ongeag ras, geslag of godsdiens en gedien het in die Staandemag, Burgermag, Kommando’s of as Dienspligtige kwalifiseer vir lidmaatskap.

Who is SADFA?
Military veterans should be acknowledged for their contribution to the development of the RSA – men, and women that made sacrifices and served their Country with honor and dignity. People that had served their Country unselfishly and deserves to be recognized, remembered and be taken care of. The South African Defence Force Association (SADFA) was established in February 2009 with the sole purpose to ensure this.
SADFA is the veteran organisation that will give you as a veteran the optimal opportunities to belong somewhere, to participate in
Memorial Services, to be looked after and will ensure that your voice will be heard on the highest levels.
The SADFA Constitution: as set out in its Constitution SADFA undertakes to do the following amongst other things:
a) to act in the interest of all our members and to promote the interests of our members within and outside of the Association;
b) to bestow visible acknowledgement for services rendered;
c) to renew and promote the comradeship amongst our members;
d) to defend the spiritual and material interests of our members;
e) to create effective communication on all levels between members.
2) Infrastructure and Objectives: SADFA has an excellent 5-year plan that will focus on the above through:
- Effective administration, communication and distribution of information;
- operating a permanent office with full-time administrative personnel;
- effective marketing and recruitment of members;
- the establishing of Sectors and Units countrywide;
- the utilization of knowledge, skill, experience and network of all members.
- What does SADFA offer? We strive to give acknowledgement by offering the following:
- A home to all military veterans where camaraderie will be renewed and promoted through various projects;
- the creation of a support base through our Sectors and Units;
- memorial services, functions and other events;
- the opportunity to participate in community projects and better your environment;
- the opportunity to be serve as a leader in a Sector or Unit and thereby being a leader in your community;
- ceremonial service at the funerals of our members;
- support to our members with registration at the Department of Military Veterans (DMV) data base as well as the application for benefits as provided for in the Act for Military Veterans (Act 18 of 2011);
- help with job seeking through our placement agency;
- training to members of units in terms of optimal use of Community Police Forum system for area protection and the prevention of crime;
- support to obtain outstanding or lost medals;
- medical insurance at low tariffs;
- support in the establishing of “Co-ops” and the access to capital;
- training in business development;
- business opportunities;
- the ongoing sourcing of benefits to members.
3.) SADFA Membership: The membership fee is R200.00 per annum. All former Permanent Force members, Civilians, Auxiliary Force, Citizen Force, Commando’s and National Servicemen who served in the former SA Defence Force and the Union Defence Force before 11 May 1994; regardless of race, gender, religion, arms of service or corps qualify to become a member.
