Can You Hear The Black Back Jackals Howl?

On 6 March 2020, the Black Back Jackals will be performing at Zebra Lounge. Black Back Jackals is an indie-folk-rock band from Johannesburg, inspired by the likes of The Civil Wars, MONSTER & MEN, The White Stripes and Angus & Julia Stone.

They love having fun on stage & that passionate vibe is so contagious that any crowd loves grooving or singing along. The band consists of two artists, Shaun and Sasha. They are close friends, from different backgrounds & they use that to merge their individual messages into influential songs that appeal to a wide range of listeners.

This is a fairly new band in the industry. They were formed and started writing songs around mid-2019 and are quickly turning heads with their performances. They’ve performed at Sink Shack, Country Pub Kyalami, River Sands Farm and Railways Café in Pretoria, alongside Crystal Park and Stones & Gold. In September of 2019, Black Back Jackals released their very first single, in association with Mix 93.8 FM.

You may not have heard of them yet, but this up and coming band is sure to get you to sing along and shake your hips on Friday evening, 6 March 2020.

Come to Zebra Lounge, and hear the Black Back Jackals howl!!

Stegmann Theatre upgrade funds unaccounted for

0

The council sitting of Govan Mbeki Municipality on Thursday, 27 February, did not go smoothly. It was marred by several points of order and explanations that were tedious and repetitive.

Several issues bothered the opposition parties and these points were raised, much to the dismay of, especially, the Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMC). These MMCs saw it fit to misunderstand, misinterpret or just be unagreeable with any opposition suggestion.

The MMCs took every opportunity to try and explain their failure to the rest of the council. At one stage the tensions were extremely high within the ANC ranks with some telling others to stop talking.

The meeting had bouts of heckling, disrupting procedures by all parties alike. The Acting Speaker Cllr Gwiji struggled to maintain order throughout the council meeting that lasted 5 and a half hours.

Several burning issues were raised and discussed.

One of the first disruptions came when the Democratic Alliance questioned the Mayor and her team’s ability to conduct their duties. This stemmed from a question by DA Cllr van Rooyen that started in June 2017. A resolution was tabled to the council in 2017 stating that funds were made available to upgrade the Stegmann Theatre. The amount in question is R3 000 000.

Van Rooyen wrote a question to the Mayor a year later asking about the funds (2018). During the last council meeting the question was raised again and the Speaker of Council, Cllr Zuma, instructed the Mayoral Committee to deal with the letter.

There was still no response from the Mayor nor from the Municipal Manager.

MMC Cllr Dan Nhlapo saw it fit to defend the Mayoral Committee and their lack of providing answers. “We have a lot of work and this question must follow processes,” said Nhlapo. This resulted in the opposition demanding action. No question should be left unanswered for nearly three years. MMC Cllr Makhaye also joined Nhlapo in defending the late response. This while he had the answers ready in front of him. He went on to accuse the opposition parties of saying that the money was in his pocket. The opposition parties took him to task. The DA especially said that the protesting is a bit too much quoting Shakespeare’s Hamlet: “The lady doth protest too much”. The DA cautioned Makhaye regarding his hefty protests explaining that protesting too much would lead to one question: why he is protesting so much?

The DA and the EFF demanded to know where the R3 000 000 was spent and why it was not spent on the theatre.

Makhaye kept by his response to say that GMM did not receive it.

Funds are made available from time to time by the National Treasury to help with capital projects and upgrades. If it is not used it is lost and taken away. Next year’s funding would then be less.

Terapeute Danile Neethling, Ilidia Lambrechts, Minette Schneider, Igna Beukes

Ilidia Lambrechts gesels oor gesonde kosblikke

Suiker inhoud in koeldrank

Albert van Wyk kuier by Hoërskool Oosterland

0

In 2017 het sy boek “How to Become a Millionaire at 22” op die rakke beland.

Dino Nair, SA 9-Ball Captain and Aden Joseph (South African Tour Championships, Stage 1)

Jason Theron won the US Open Global Qualifier, South Africa! What a fantastic end to the weekend for KZN based Jason Theron (Vadins) who carved his way through a tough field to win two honours at the US Open Qualifier.
A difficult match against Darren Barnard almost cost him a spot as it went down to a decider. From that point, Jason upped a GEAR.
Jason came up against old rival and good friend Aden Joseph (Pandas) who currently seems to be unstoppable on the 9-foot tables.
The match was evenly contested at 6 – 6 as both players traded blows and took run out after run out.
After a few careless errors by Aden, Jason took advantage and stamped his authority on the match running into a 10 – 6 lead and finally closed off the match with 11 – 7.
Jason has earned himself a spot in the US Open valued at $1000 as well as R20 000 cash towards his flights and accommodation compliments of a generous sponsor from KWV.
We would like to thank KWV for the sponsorship and hope we can forge a stronger partnership with them in the years to come.
The 1st ever South African Tour Championship event was played as a pre-event to the US OPEN Qualifier, South Africa.
With half the field made up from local players, Panda’s tried to make an impact. New Panda recruits, Darren Barnard and Shane Nolan made it into the last 8. Fellow Pandas who made it into the last 8 were Nicola Rossouw, Vincent Halliday and Aden Joseph.
Aden did it AGAIN!
He won the first South African Tour Championship Stage 1 event.
1st Aden Joseph (Pandas)
2nd Craig Bouwer (Vadins)
3rd Jamiel Jacobs (Vadins)
Congratulations to all who participated in this prestigious event!
With new faces on the circuit like Johann Fourie, Suzette Boyens and Amy King.
NEXT event on the calendar: 1-3 May 2020 at Pandas. – Hendry Erasmus

Sasol Juventus Junior Ladies still showing great progress

0
For these young girls, it is difficult to lose since they started the team in 2018. This team is also giving local U/13 and U/15 boys tough times on the pitch. On 21 February, they locked horns with Stars of Tomorrow from Gate 8. The Sasol Juventus Ladies walked off the pitch victorious: 2-0. Goals were scored by Ntokozo (Mbape) Mahlangu (Jersey 9) and Zain (Mshishi) Rhadebe (Jersey 11). Their manager, Mxolisi Lindokuhle Mngomezulu is very proud of the team’s progress. He said: “I am looking forward to see some of them representing Govan Mbeki on a national level. I am proud that the senior team is showing great results as they are preparing for the Sasol League that is going to start soon. The senior team won 5 – 0 at Morgenzon this weekend.”
