Move One Million demonstration on Saturday, 5 September

Move One Million will be hosting a nationwide demonstration this weekend. Move One Million is followed on social media around the world. The group was created to encourage locals to speak out against South Africa’s “corrupt system.” The group is very similar to the #IamStaying movement and the group encourages uniting all South Africans across all religions, genders and races.

Staunch call for peaceful demonstrations

Move One Million organisers call upon all South Africans across the country to adhere to the government’s message about Heritage Month to foster greater social cohesion, nation building and a shared national identity as they take to the streets this weekend.

The grassroots movement Move One Million has united over half a million citizens via social media over the past 6 weeks. They strongly urge all those in support of the movement to keep in mind the reason they are taking part in this mass demonstration on Saturday 5 September 2020. The movement emphasizes that the values of love, unity, respect and kindness should be adopted by every ‘mover’ intending on taking to the streets.

Jarette Petzer, founder of Move One Million stated: “We call upon all citizens supporting Move One Million to show the utmost respect towards their fellow citizens including authorities such as SAPS. This is set to be the biggest, most unifying movement in our 26 years of democracy. We strongly encourage everyone to hold the vision of a united, peaceful and prosperous South Africa at the forefront of their minds on Saturday.”

In the interest of public safety and based on the response from the police last week, organisers call upon all participants to refrain from approaching all parliamentary buildings, Houses of Parliament in Cape Town in particular. Those in Cape Town are invited to join in activities at Grand Parade.

The movement strongly condemns any acts of looting and burning or destruction of property including all private, public and government property. Citizens are reminded not to mount, deface, drape items on, or destroy any monument or other property.

Everyone is asked to abide by the laws regarding the respectful display of the South African flag and that it is illegal to display the old Apartheid flag.

All participants are to refrain from any act of violence. They also ask participants to keep in mind the relevant regulations of the Disaster Management Act including social distancing to reduce the spread of the virus.

Petzer went on to say: “We understand everyone’s frustrations and emotions are high but let us not spoil the start of something that is so much bigger than each of us as individuals. Our movement belongs to all of us. We welcome citizens from all races, orientation, religious backgrounds and all walks of life. We ask people to adopt our values of love, unity, caring and kindness as ways to channel their frustrations in a positive and productive way.”

Where possible, organisers urge others to take part by means of vehicle convoy. Those creating awareness on street corners are reminded to please adhere to all road safety regulations which includes not walking on the roads itself except at pedestrian crossings when it is safe to do so and not distracting drivers whilst driving or blocking the flow of traffic for everyone’s safety.

Those taking part in human chains are reminded to ensure they are connected using 2 metres ribbon between each participant.

All are reminded to sanitise their hands regularly and wear masks for the duration of all activities.

POLICE LAUNCH MANHUNT FOR FARM ATTACK 1 SUSPECT

Police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt for a suspect who escaped during a farm attack incident that took place yesterday, 02 September 2020.

The incident happened at Sundra near Delmas where one suspect was shot dead.

According to information, three armed men went to a certain farm and forcefully entered the premises.

The men proceeded to the house and found the security gate locked, the owners then heard the noise and a shootout ensued.

A police officer living nearby heard the gunshots and called for backup. Members of the civilian neighbourhood watch group also got involved and spotted the suspects where a shootout ensued.

One suspect was shot and killed and another suspect was apprehended and sustained gunshot wounds.

Two firearms, with serial numbers filed off loaded with ammunition were seized.

The third suspect evaded arrest hence the manhunt.

The police opened a case of attempted house robbery, murder, attempted murder as well as unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The 30 -year-old suspect was taken to hospital just after his arrest where he is under police guard and he is expected to appear in the Delmas Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 04 September 2020.

Nog ‘n “So is die lewe” rubriek vanuit die pen van Ds Marius Britz. Titel is Knettervuur.

Dikwels het ek al op ‘n Woensdagoggend gekyk hoe die vullislorrie van Langebaan se munisipaliteit die vuilgoedsakke voor elke huis oplaai. In ‘n oogknip word die afval ingesluk deur die lorrie, en huis na huis verdwyn die afgelope week se plastieksakke met skille en ou kos, eierdoppe en leë bottels, die gebruikte sneesdoekies en wat ook al.

Amper soos Doris Brasch gesing het in haar bekende lied Lappop: “Iemand het ‘n lappop op die ashoop neergegooi. Sy was gedaan en stukkend, verbleek en glad nie meer mooi nie.” Daar is sy omring deur “net ‘n vrot pampoen en ‘n stukkende skoen, ‘n grammofoonplaat en ‘n kous sonder maat, net ‘n leë bottel bier en ‘n verlepte angelier, ‘n gelapte binneband en ‘n ou koerant.”

As mens se lewe maar so maklik opgeruim kon word, het ek dikwels al gedink as ek sien hoe glad geoefen die munisipale werkers is om die vullis te verwyder. As jy maar jou frustrasies, jou seer, jou eie kleingeloof en jou nagtelange kommer oor jou mense, en jou mislukte en verloopte drome en jou waaromvrae alles saam kon indruk in ‘n plastieksak, en dit opgelaai en weggery kan word sodat jy dit nooit weer hoef te sien of te beleef nie. (Al het Iemand reeds op ‘n ashoop genaamd Plek van die Hoofskedel, ook bekend as Golgota, presies dit wel gedoen, maar ons gaan krap maar altyd weer op ashope om ons opgebruikte bagasiedinge terug te kry.)

Gister het ek in my gedagtes vuilgoedsakke van leef stuk-stuk afgelaai. So vat ons die N1 verby Worcester, noord. In Kaapse definisie was ons nou summier in Johannesburg. Maar anderkant Matjiesfontein raak die omgewing bykans ongemerk anders, kaler, meer weerloos.

Jy begin ontspan, jou moeë gedagtes word gevul deur die Hebreeuse begrip shalom, ‘n toestand van gelatenheid, vrede, kalmte en aanvaarding. Die wydsheid van die kaal karoo word ‘n warm karos vir ‘n koue hart; dit verplaas jou vanuit ‘n afgemete, voorspelbare voorstedelike bestaan na ‘n ander lewe, waar tyd en ewigheid saam met jou beweeg, soos die telefoondrade langs die pad.

Jy sien die gebiede waar dit nog so droog is, en hoe uitgelate pasgebore lammertjies huppel in die dooie veld. Dit gee jou moed vir ons land. Mense wat kan uithou, vasbyt. As jy brandstof ingooi op Britstown is daar ‘n oompie wat vreeslik gevlei voel as jy, synde ‘n veteraanmotorfanatikus, jaloers en vol begeerte staar na sy Chevrolet Fleetline uit die sestigerjare. “Dis die beste bakkie in Suid Afrika, my Lanie,” sê hy.

Jy kry weer hoop, hoop vir die toekoms. Hoop vir die land. Die karoo word ‘n utopia wat jou insuig in ‘n vergete tyd en wêreld in. Sy stilte is mooier as die grootste simfonie. “Hemingway and I felt deeply in love with the land”, het Peter Sarstead oor Afrika gesing. Jy besef: jy is vir hierdie deel van God se aarde, sonder berge en see en wit strande, hartstogtelik lief.

Uiteindelik pas jou lewe in ‘n rugsak in, wat jy saam met jou wíl dra.

Die enigste tekens van lewe laataand op die klein dorpie is die jakkalse wat hartseer weeklaag, net hier anderkant jou, die pikswart donkie wat in die stofpad verbyloop, en die koedoes wat langs die begraafplaas staan en wei. Omdat jy moeg is na die lang rit, los jy sommer jou skootrekenaar, selfoon, (wat in elk geval nie hier werk nie), en jou kamera op die stoeptafel. Moreoggend sal dit steeds daar wees.

As die son opkom, lyk die dorpie presies dieselfde as wat jy onthou. Die bekende ou huise, die rant wat beskermend die paar geboutjies toevou. Die begraafplaas met sy ou grafte van vorige geslagte. MPUMALANGA FRAUDSTERS APPEARED IN COURT FOR THEFT AND FRAUD OF R 1.9 MILLION

Two accused Hugo Christiaan Le Roux (41) and accomplice Rochelle Edith Du Plessis Bekker (35) appeared before the Komatipoort Magistrate Court shortly after they were arrested on a warrant by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Investigation Nelspruit on Wednesday.

It is alleged that between 2015 and 2018 Le Roux, who was the Manager of Izusa Carriers in Komatipoort colluded with Du Plessis Bekker, who was the owner of HLR Contracting (Pty) Ltd for transport services to clients of Izusa Carriers.

Both accused issued tax invoices to these existing clients with higher rates for transport services indicating a deficit to Izusa Carriers and took the differences on the higher rates.

The money was paid into the HLR Contracting bank account and the differences paid into the accused’s’ personal accounts prejudicing Izusa Carriers R 1.9 million.

Both accused are facing more than 500 charges of theft, fraud and money laundering.

The accused were granted R 10 000 bail each and the case is postponed to 20 November 2020.

1 SECURITY GUARD APPEARS FOR VARIOUS CHARGES

A 28-year-old security guard, Lucky Vala, appeared at the Standerton Magistrate’s Court today, on various charges including, fraud, theft as well as impersonating a senior prosecutor. 

The suspect was arrested yesterday, 01 September 2020, at Standerton during a police operation.

According to information received, Vala, who is stationed at Standerton Magistrate’s Court, is accused of soliciting bribes under false pretence from unsuspecting members of the public to reduce their traffic fines.

He would apparently lure the public in by pretending he is a senior prosecutor, take their money, then go to a private office to reduce the fines illegally.

His cover was blown when several complaints were made from people who had not received their receipts as proof of payment.

The matter was reported to the police, who in turn initiated an operation into the matter and arrested the suspect.

During the arrest, Vala was found in possession of traffic fines, date stamps as well as reduction affidavits.

Vala was remanded in custody and will appear at the same court tomorrow, 03 September 2020 for formal bail application.

Sasol hands over 80 000 litres of sanitiser to DBE to help curb spread of COVID-19 in schools

Sasol handed over 80 000 litres of alcohol-based sanitiser to the Department of Basic Education (DBE) yesterday in support of its efforts to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in schools as the country gears to welcome the last intake of learners today.

The sanitiser will be distributed to rural and disadvantaged schools in mostly Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State and Eastern Cape provinces which have been identified by Government.

“This donation by Sasol will go a long way in enabling us to maintain the balance between learning and safety,” said Minister of Education, Angie Motshekga.

“When we opened schools with our MECs, we said safety first and for us this donation deals with what we said was a priority. It is safety first and then everything else. So, for us, this donation is highly valued. It is at the heart of what can keep us in or out of schools.”

Since the declaration of COVID-19 as a pandemic in March, Sasol has pulled all stops to support the DBE’s efforts to ensure that learning continues during the lockdown period.

The Sasol Foundation partnered with DBE in March and Africa Teen Geeks on the STEM Lockdown Digital School initiative to provide free online classes.

More than 250 000 Grade R to 12 learners accessed these online lessons.

With schools now re-opened, Sasol wants to support the Department’s endeavours to ensure the health and safety of learners.

“As a patriotic and proudly South African company, we recognise that we have a duty to step up and partner with Government to meet the needs of our communities,” said Charlotte Mokoena, Executive Vice President: Human Resources and Corporate Affairs.

“We are also aware and appreciative of the challenges placed by the COVID-19 pandemic on the education sector, which have ranged from the loss in academic time, vandalism of infrastructure to health and safety concerns for learners and staff at schools. We are committed to helping where we can and how we can.”

The donation of sanitisers is the second one Sasol is making since the re-opening of schools.

After developing our own Sasol-blend of alcohol-based sanitiser that is in line with World Health Organisation’s requirements, Sasol in May distributed close to 100 000 litres of alcohol-based sanitiser to schools and early childhood development centres in its host provinces of Mpumalanga and the Free State, as well as to those along its pipeline that stretches from Komatipoort to Carolina.

It also donated to schools and ECD centres in KwaZulu-Natal along Newcastle, Mandeni, Mhlathuze and eThekwini.

“We understand that a meaningful and impactful response is only possible through collaboration. No single entity has the capacity to do it alone,” said Mokoena.

Central Firearm Registry (CFR) is working tirelessly to address firearm licence backlog resulting from Covid-19

The South African Police Service management wants to reassure firearm licence applicants that the CFR is attending to licencing backlogs which resulted from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Like most businesses in the country, the CFR is also suffering a setback as a result of the virus which has hampered its performance on delivering on the agreed 90-day turn-around time for licence applications.

Compounding this is the influx of reapplications of firearm licences made during the previous firearm amnesty period as well as the current one which are over and above the new applications.

Since the start of Alert Level 2 of the Lockdown, the CFR has put mechanisms in place which could not be done during the previous three Alert Levels, to alleviate the resultant backlog.

Applicants are urged to be patient as the SAPS is reviewing a turnaround time to finalise applications from 90 to 120 working days.

In the meantime, the working hours of employees at the CFR is also being increased to ensure effective and efficient service delivery in this regard.

The management of the CFR, with the full support of the Divisional Commissioner of Visible Policing, Lieutenant General Moeketsi Sempe, is continuously reviewing measures that can be put in place to mitigate the delays in processing firearm licence applications.

Johan Roarty staak Ile de France stoet boerdery!

Johan Roarty het sy Ile de France stoet uitverkoop op ‘n veiling, Saterdag 29 Augustus 2020.

Die naam Johan Roarty het sinoniem geword met Ile de France skape. Hy het skape van hoogstaande gehalte geteel op sy plaas Kromdraai naby Kinross, Mpumalanga.

Sy skape was gesog by kopers op die gereelde veilings wat die Ile de France Skaaptelersgenootskap van Suid Afrika gehou het.

Johan het in 2002 sy eerste skape van sy stoet gekoop en in 2003 skou hy dan ook die eerste keer met die skape by die Pretoria Skou. Daar wen hy toe eerste plek met een van sy ooie.

Die Johan Roarty Stoet het bekendheid verwerf in die skaap kringe met al die pryse wat sy stoet gewen het. Tydens die 2007 Pietermaritzburg skou wen hy die beste slaglam kompetiesie. Hierdie is ‘n baie gesogde prys.

Tydens die 2016 Pietermaritzburg Royal Show behaal een van Johan se karkasse ‘n alemintige R400 per Kilogram. Die karkas was deur Wilowton Meats in Pietermaritzburg gekoop. Die duurste wat vir Johan se karkasse betaal was is R485 per kilo.

Johan se kantoor is oortrek met al die pryse, medaljes en sertifikate wat hy al met sy skape verwerf het.

The Bulletin het aan Johan gevra waarom hy die deel van sy boerdery staak?

“Die groot rede is maar die ouderdom,” het Johan geantwoord, “daar is ook nog die ding van die diefstal.”

Die stoet ramme was eenkant gehou om te kondisioneer maar ongelukkig is al 12 Stoet ramme in een aand gesteel.

Die boerdery bestaan nie net uit stoet skape nie maar ook slagskape en beeste. Johan, wat vanjaar 70 jaar oud is, het sy hele lewe lank geboer en het ‘n groot liefde vir die Ile de France ras ontwikkel.

Op die opmerking van The Bulletin dat die skape lyk of hulle gekam is voor die veiling het hy net gelag en gese dat dit is hoe hulle uit die kraal gekom het.

Johan het ‘n groot passie vir sy skape en elke skaap kan hy uitken. Sy liefde vir sy skape kan altyd gesien word deur sy dag tot dag take. Wanneer die dag tot ‘n einde kom gaan sit hy rustig by die skaapkraal en bekyk en bewonder sy skape. Johan het alles ingesit vir sy skape.

Die veiling Saterdag het baie goeie pryse behaal en die die hoogste prys is vir ‘n ooi betaal. Francios Drotskie van Ellisras, het R18000 vir die mooi ooi betaal.

Jan Mosterd van BKB Lewende hawe wat die afslaer was was vol lof vir die kwaliteit van die stoet. Hy was dan ook baie tevrede met die dag se verrigtinge.

“Ek wil graag van die geleentheid gebruik maak om vir almal by BKB my hoed op te lig,” het ‘n aangedane Johan gesê, “en te sê, baie dankie.”

Johan beskryf sy stoet as sy tweede stel kleinkinders.

Die Ile de France boere gaan vir seker die kwaliteit van Johan se skape mis. Die kopers wat van heinde en vere gekom het het gekom om nog ‘n laaste keer van sy bloedlyn aan te koop.

Johan, geniet jou aftrede. Ons is verseker dat jy nie heeltemal sal aftree nie en hou maar die sake dop om te sien wat volgende gaan wees.

Double farm murder shock!

Glen Rafferty and his wife, Vida Homann Rafferty were brutally murdered on their farm in Normandien, Kwazulu-Natal.

The double murder took place on 29 August at 22H00. It appeared that they were attacked when they arrived home from visiting friends in Newcastle.

Both were shot numerous times by an unknown number of attackers. One of their dogs were also shot in the attack.

Glen and Vida were the parents of Nathan Rafferty and his wife Tamsyn.

Tamsyn is the founder and previous owner of Heritage Properties in Secunda.

We, at The Bulletin, will remember Glen and Vida as kind and loving people! We would like to express our deepest sympathy to Nathan, Tamsyn and their family.

It appeared that the attackers gained entry through the back door and waited for the couple to return, shooting and killing them as they did so.

The bodies of the couple were discovered when a routine farm patrol patrolled the farm at 05H25 on Sunday morning.

Both were lying in front of the front door of the farmhouse.

It is not clear what valuables were taken but the house was ransacked. The only item that seems to be taken appears to be a DVR.

This attack raises questions as to the motive of these type of attacks.

The attackers fled in the couple’s vehicle that was later recovered near Ladysmith.
