Murderer sentenced to life imprisonment

POLICE MANAGEMENT ELATED OVER HEFTY SENTENCE HANDED DOWN TO MURDERER

NELSPRUIT – The police management in Mpumalanga are elated over a hefty sentence handed down by the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court sitting in Middelburg to a 29-year-old man who killed his ex-girlfriend as well as two little girls.

This unpalatable incident occurred at Grootvlei near Embalenhle in 2013 at which the murderer, Buti Simon Mduduzi Dlamini became violent after receiving news that the abusive relationship he had subjected his 19-year-old then-girlfriend, Xolisile Josephine Mokoena, has come to an end. He (Dlamini) did not accept the fact that their relationship was over but rather orchestrated an evil plan to pay revenge by wiping off her entire family. At the time, Xolisile was staying with her uncle at his house, together with her niece and her cousin.

The Court heard that on 05 October 2013, Dlamini bought petrol which he stored in a portable container and waited for Xolisile’s family to go to sleep. On that sad day, a neighbour who was a minor came to sleep over as she would occasionally do whenever her mom was working the night shift. He (Dlamini) then broke into the house at night, sprinkled petrol over his ex-girlfriend as well as over the two young girls (the niece and the neighbour) before setting them alight.

He then torched the whole house and fled the scene. The uncle, as well as the cousin, were woken up by smoke and flames that engulfed the house. They tried to rescue the three girls but Mbali Maria Mokoena, aged 14 and Mamokete Carolina Mofokeng, aged 11 could not make it, meanwhile, Xolisile was rescued, taken to Heidelberg hospital, later transferred to Chris Hani Baragwanath hospital where she, unfortunately, succumbed to her injuries.

The police were notified of the incident and a case was opened with three counts of murder, two attempted murder as well as arson. While conducting their investigation, police finally made a breakthrough when they sniffed Dlamini out of his hiding place and arrested him in September last year in the Free State Province. On 05 November 2020, Dlamini was convicted by the Court hence his sentencing yesterday.

He was sentenced as follows:

Count 01 – murder, life imprisonment.

Count 02 – murder, life imprisonment.

Count 03 – murder, also life imprisonment.

Count 04 – attempted murder, eight (08) years imprisonment.

Count 05 – attempted murder, eight (08) years imprisonment.

Count 06 – arson, five (05) years imprisonment.

The accused was also found to be unfit to possess a firearm. When handing down the sentence to the convicted murderer, Judge Thando Mankge indicated that Count 04, 05 and 06 will run concurrently with the three life sentences.

The leadership of the police in the province has welcomed the sentence, indicating that it will bring closure to the families of victims. They (management) also praised the hard work displayed by the team of Detectives, the Prosecution as well as the Judiciary for working as a collaborative on this matter.

The steady flow continued at Laerskool Kruinpark. Cold weather and rain could also have influenced the voter patterns.

“We would like to congratulate Terry-Lee on her election as a councillor to Govan Mbeki Municipality,” said Mariaan Chamberlain, Constituency Chairperson for GMM, “The DA put a lot of effort into this by-election to ensure that the residents of ward 30 get the best possible candidate for their ward.”

“We now have an extra voice in councill!” she concluded.

The by-elections were held under strict new COVID-19 protocols aimed at ensuring the safety of voters, election staff, party agents, observers and other stakeholders. These included implementing strict social distancing practices outside and inside voting stations along with the use of hand sanitisers as voters entered and exited the voting station.

Voters, election staff and all those entering the voting station were required to wear a mask at all times. Voters were also encouraged to bring their own pens to mark their ballot papers, although pens were provided and sanitized after each use.

The day was not without incident as the EFF tried to intimidate the DA into moving their party branding to make space for the EFF. This did not work as the DA stood their ground. The EFF had to be content with the space that was left.

With your highly original and exciting personality traits, why not fall in love with a coloured moissanite instead of the usual colourless.

Taurus: April 20–May 20

Personality traits:  Patient, careful, romantic, grounded, and supportive.

Threading? It’s no massive threat!

In this month’s lucky packet surprise video Ané and I tried threading, both for the first time, to experience this not-so-foreign-anymore beauty regimen.

Threading is an ancient method of hair removal that originated in Iran, India, China and Central Asia.

It involves a professional using a thin cotton or polyester thread, which is doubled up and then twisted, to remove unwanted hair. The thread is rolled over areas with unwanted hair to pluck it out at the follicle level (Goodman, 2019).

Threading allows for a much more defined and natural look since it’s so targeted.

When it comes down to it, however, the way you decide to sculpt your brows is really about personal preference.

Neither of us had ever had threading done and this passing Saturday the opportunity arose to have our eyebrows threaded.

We’re here to bust those myths and corroborate the truths about threading.

The one thing everyone is most worried about; Does it hurt?

Honestly, it depends on who you ask. Some people have told me in the past that threading hurts A LOT! Whilst others maintain that it’s definitely less painful than waxing. Discomfort from waxing is usually due to the tugging and pulling of the skin.

READ ALSO: Threading (epilation)

Threading on the other hand just tugs out the hair and doesn’t touch the skin.

As you can see in the video of both Ané and I being threaded, it’s actually quite painless.

WATCH HERE: Threading saam L & A

Naturally, there’s the odd hair that resists the thread, but it’s not any worse than plucking or waxing.

Along with the threading both of us had our eyebrows and eyelashes tinted.

Being dark haired, my tinting was much less visible afterwards than Ané’s.

Threading? It’s no threat!
Being dark haired, my tinting was much less visible afterwards than Ané’s.

Ané is rather fair and blonde, but with the correct colour applied, she looked beautiful and natural afterwards. Due to her having blue eyes, the girl performing the tint decided on a blue black for Ané’s eyelashes and it made her blue eyes pop even more!

Threading? It’s no threat!
One can clearly see the difference in Ané’s before and after shots.

By choosing the correct colour of tint for your shade, even people with fair, blonde hair and features can give tint a try!

Francesca Coetzer, or as her friends call her Franky, is an accredited permanent make-up artist who is busy obtaining diploma’s in threading, tinting, waxing and anything else that you can think of that removes hair from your body. She was in Secunda on Saturday to test her skills on some willing volunteers.

Bethal DBV – Jakkie Louw tree op by Stoepstories

Bethal DBV
Stoepstories Bethal

SPCA Bethal, Standard Bank, Rekening nommer 031033253, Tak kode 052544.

Daar is ook ‘n “Adopt a kennel” program.

Water pressure reduction for GMM.

Reduction of water supply to three municipalities due to non-payment

The financial management inaptitude of Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) is rearing its ugly head again.

GMM did not honour its obligations and agreements with Rand Water once again. Rand Water placed a statement on their website regarding the reductions.

GMM has recently been placed under administration in terms of section 139(1)(b) of the Constitution. An administrator is yet to be appointed.

Here is the statement that Rand Water posted on their Facebook page:

Rand Water has formally informed three of its municipal customers of its intention to reduce water pressure due to the non-payment for services rendered.

The Emfuleni Local Municipality in Gauteng and two municipalities in Mpumalanga namely the Victor Khanye and the Govan Mbeki Local Municipalities will face these this credit control measures.

Visit Rand Water HERE

The water pressure to the Emfuleni Local Municipality will be reduced by 20-percent. The Municipality includes areas such as Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark, Evaton and Sebokeng. The arrear amount due to Rand Water by the Emfuleni Local Municipality is R 994 million. The total outstanding amount due by the Emfuleni Local Municipality is R 1.1 billion.

The water pressure to the Victor Khanye Municipality will be reduced by 20-percent. The Municipality includes areas such Delmas, Botleng, Eloff and Sundra. The arrear amount due to Rand Water by the Victor Khanye Local Municipality is R 185 million. The total amount due by the Victor Khanye Local Municipality is R 194 million.

The water pressure to the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality will be reduced by 20-percent. The Municipality includes areas such as Bethal, Embalenhle, Leandra and Kinross. The arrear amount due to Rand Water by the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality is R 314 million. The total amount due by the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality is R 351 million.

In all three of these matters, the municipalities have failed to honour the agreements made to settle the outstanding amounts due to Rand Water. Rand Water will now implement these credit control measures (reductions in the water supply) to compel the Municipalities to meet their obligations to the settle amounts due to for water services rendered.

Rand Water has informed the Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation in writing of its intention to implement the credit control measures, as well as the MEC for Human Settlements, Urban Planning and Co-operative Governance in Gauteng and the MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs in Mpumalanga. The Department of the National Treasury has also been informed.

Rand Water will implement the credit control measures on Monday, 9 November 2020.

Residents should expect water pressure drops as the reservoir levels start to drop due to the water supply reductions.

Alf Byleveldt survives a near-fatal freak accident

Sunday 25 October will forever be etched into the memory of the Byleveldt family.

This was the day that so nearly cost Alf Byleveldt his life. A freak accident in his home workshop left Alf with severe burns to his hands, face and head.

But Alf miraculously survived.

Alf Byleveldt
Alf Byleveldt survived a freak accident

Alf became known as the man from Jelani security that would mostly be the first on a fire scene. The enthusiasm and passions that Alf displayed towards his work at accident scenes and fires is contagious.

Sometimes Alf would grab the “Jaws of Life” from somewhat hapless GMM firemen shouting “let me show you how” when they would be moving to slow to his liking.

The White and Blue Mahindra also became well known at protest actions as Alf would babysit his client’s assets.

Alf with his Bakkie

Langamed responded immediately to the scene of the accident with ER24 on their heels. Emergency medical care was administered, and Alf was stabilised before ER24 transported him to Mediclinic Highveld. He was airlifted to Milpark Burn ICU shortly after.

Read about Burn Facilities and Services at the Milpark Burn ICU HERE

There is a long recovery road ahead of Alf, as his burns are deep and severe. He is still in ICU and under sedation. He will be critical for at least the next four months. He is also heavily sedated to help with the severe pain that burns victims’ experience. His doctors are considering whether they should reduce some of the sedation to assess his condition better, but it has not been done yet.

The current treatment includes a visit to the theatre every 48 hours for a scrubbing of his wounds. This is especially important as infection is a major concern for burn victims.

The road to good health is awfully long as Alf would need skin transplants, more surgery, and a lot of physiotherapy. But Alf is a fighter and is responding positive to his treatment.

Petro Byleveldt, Alf’s wife, is keeping his friends updated on a WhatsApp group. The Bulletin spoke to Petro earlier this week to enquire to Alf’s’ health and the family. What we have found is that the whole family rallied around Alf and his business to ensure that his clients and friends are not neglected.

Jelani Security was found in 2016 by Alf Byleveldt.
As a responsible Security Provider, they offer the following services.
• Physical Site Security
• Access Control
• Patrolling
• Canine
• Guarding

“I would like to assure all our clients at Jelani Security that nothing has change on the operational side of the business” said Petro. She explained that Alf has a passion for his clients but most of all his staff. “we have a little too much staff, but Alf cannot let them go,” said Petro, “he is concerned that they will have nowhere else to go.”

The following contact numbers for Jelani can now be used:

  • Ben van Jaarsveld- 0820826045
  • Petro Byleveldt- 0725675345

The Bulletin also often made use of information that Alf would provide, sometimes very late at night, regarding protest actions and other actions. It would appear that Alf never slept.

Petro asked for his friends to send voice messages if they could that she could play for him at her few visits. “His responded every time that he heard messages.” Said Petro Byleveldt. “The Nursing Sisters was so pleased when she saw him moving his foot, that she tried to get him to repeat it. She could not get him to do it.”

Friends all joined the WhatsApp group and regularly send messages of encouragement and well wishes to Alf and his family.

The Byleveldt family

Only his wife is allowed to visit him, not even his children, and then for only 30 minutes a day. Petro can also not even touch him at the moment. Touching is a natural human way of showing affection, empathy etc.

Petro said, “I would like to thank everyone for their words of encouragement, messages and just the quick hugs that everyone were sending to the Family and also to Alf. It would be far more difficult to work through this if it were not for them. I would also like to thank everyone that were involved, and still are, with his care and business.”

The Bulletin would like to express our heartfelt sympathy with the injuries of Alf Byleveldt and wish him a speedy and full recovery.

He better hurry up, there is work to do!
