FIGHT FOR A CHICKEN LEAVES GMM COUNCILLOR BEHIND BARS
A woman was allegedly assaulted with a Panga by ARP PR Councillor, John Mahlangu, of Govan Mbeki Municipality on Tuesday, 13 September 2022 in eMbalenhle, Ext 22( Azania).
This followed after the lady’s neighbour confronted her about the chicken that he claimed was “locked” in the woman’s yard and the victim went to the offices of Azania for intervention. That is when the suspect allegedly assaulted her with a Panga.
According to the victim, the suspect tried to hack her on the head and she blocked with her right hand resulting in a cut on her hand.
She then went to the clinic in Ext 4 for treatment and was referred to Evander hospital where she was admitted for a day.
A case of assault GBH has been opened at Embalenhle police station and the councillor was subsequently arrested on Friday, 16 September 2022.

John Mahlangu appeared in Evander court today. His formal bail application is postponed to Thursday 22 September. He is remanded in custody until then.
Councillor Mahlangu will also appear on other unrelated charges this week.
