7 Suspects arrested by Delmas SAPS

PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER HAILS POLICE AFTER SEVEN (7) SUSPECTS ARE ARRESTED FOR VARIOUS CHARGES

Nelspruit – 09 June 2022:   The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has applauded Police at Delmas after they arrested seven suspects aged between 21 and 42, yesterday, 08 June 2022. The suspects were arrested on various charges including, business robbery, armed robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of suspected stolen vehicles as well as possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

According to the report, the members were alerted about a business robbery which had taken place at Lefa Mine near Belfast and that suspects had fled in two vehicles, a Mahindra Light Delivery Vehicle and a Toyota Hilux Double Cab. The members then swiftly responded and also called for backup from Bronkortspruit and Benoni K9 Units. They were also joined by the local neighbourhood watch and together, pursued the suspects who allegedly headed towards Delmas.

Four suspects allegedly abandoned the Toyota Hilux Double Cab and fled into the bushes. The committed members together with the neighbourhood watch group vigorously searched for them until they managed to arrest three and confiscated three firearms.

The members then received information that a gold Toyota Quantam collected the fourth suspect, which they pursued and later spotted on the R42 towards Delmas and arrested two more suspects.

The police investigated further and gathered information which led them to a house in Botleng, Delmas where additional two suspects were arrested.

They (Police) recovered a total of five (5) firearms, ten (10) cellphones, two (3) vehicles (Mahindra LDV, Toyota Hilux Double Cab and Toyota Quantum), a generator as well as two (2) diesel pumps.

Police cannot also rule out the possibility of linking these suspects to other cases.

All suspects will appear at the Delmas District Court tomorrow, 10 June 2022.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has applauded the concerted effort by the members and the community.
