Dean keeps Moove-ing

0

On 24 March 1992 Dean Wrigley Jnr was brought into the world. He is the youngest of three children and isn’t scared to say that he is the favourite! He was born and bred in Secunda and with his worldwide travels still chooses to call Secunda home.
Dean’s fitness journey started when he was in Grade 9. He had Sport Science as a subject and his teacher, Mrs Boyley, told the class that they were unfit. Mrs Boyley was also an aerobics instructor at Sasol Gym. Mrs Boyley played a huge part in Dean’s fitness career.
Dean and a friend decided to join her class. Walking into a gym for the first time was terrifying for the two youngsters. “We did not know where to look. There was so much going on but as soon as we walked into the aerobics class, everything just synchronised. The sound of weights falling, people on treadmills, the electrifying music. It is indescribable the magic of a gym. Right there and then I knew this was where I belong.”
In Grade 10 he did his group fitness qualification through Fit Pro and the 4 November 2008 he hosted his first class. By the time he was in matric he was offered a full-time position at Sasol Gym.
As life would have it, in 2011 a few spanners were thrown into the works for Dean. These were told to me but we’ll keep that “off the record.” Even though a lot happened, it did not deter him to follow his dream of working on the ships (even though his ultimate dream was always to be cabin crew).
In the middle of 2011 Dean flew to London for 6 weeks of basic training. From there he set sail! His first experience on the boat led him to: Orlando – Nassau – Bahamas. The second boat sailed him to: Miami – Nassau – Jamaica – Cayman Islands. But even though he loved every moment and experience gained, there was still a hole in his heart which led him back to a permanent position at Sasol Gym in 2013.
Realising that he needs something to fall back on he started studying BCom Accounting and finished his clerkship at TVS Auditors but continued giving class at the gym. He soon realised that he is not cut out to sit in an office. This was the umpteenth time that he realised that fitness is his ultimate dream.
December 2017 Moove Motion Fitness opened. He started as a fitness trainer and today he is Regional Manager: Fitness for four clubs.
Even though his position keeps him busy he still instructs dance classes, Pilates and Aqua. He said that every class is a performance. “I always joke and say I’m working towards an Oscar. I always preach to other instructors that if you stand in front of the class, there is not a world outside of that classroom. If you have 10 members in your class, there are 10 different reasons why they are there. You are their escape for that hour.”
Except for his love of fitness, he has, in his own words, “a massive passion for human movement. It is fascinating to me how the body works.”
Another love Dean has is Netball. “It goes with my passion for human movement. It is such a strategic game and each player has to be extremely fit as each one has a role to play. I am a graded Action Sports Netball umpire and of my goals is to go to SAs and to be able to umpire at such a high level would be an honour.” – Ané Prinsloo

The myths and the legends of the metal community, history of the metal genre in SA

0

Have we stumbled upon the greatest potential piece of history in South African metal?
The myth and the legend, the man who practically kicked it all off, the founding member of Retribution Denied and Sacrifist: Paul Verster.
A name unknown to most of those who joined the metal scene recently or those who haven’t yet jumped on the Crazy Train that is metal.
While rock bands were popping up in South Africa at the time, there had to be something that stood out from it all. It was brutal, it was angry, it was Retribution Denied, formed in 1991, releasing a six song EP through Inhouse Records titled: “The Meek Shall inherit the earth…”
In 1992, a split project called “The Black Cathedral… and other stories” followed by another split project the year thereafter: “Death of Africa…? “
They had already made a name for themselves and blew minds all over South Africa, introducing a much more aggressive tone to ears everywhere. In 1995 they recorded and released another demo: “In the beginning there was…”. With their gore-filled lyrical content and blackened Death Metal sound, they burrowed into the hearts of many metal fans everywhere. Despite the crowds that frowned upon this new inaudible music genre, labelling any headbanging man or woman with long hair, piercings and a different outlook on life, they gutted their way through the negativity and kept on pushing for the freedom of it, the beauty of it and the fans that loved it. Finally, being able to see something like this in our country that sparked worldwide was phenomenal, a place to relax, head bang, let go: Metal gigs!
Four years passed and they released a full length nine song album, including demo tracks through Emptiness Records in 1999. According to Metallum metal encyclopaedia: “An album was recorded (7 tracks) but due to line-up difficulties and uninterest in the band, the album wasn´t released. The band split up shortly after.” A sad day for metal music…

Tannie Poppie se Grooitjie se piekelkwepers

0

Voeg die brandrissie by.
Skep in gesteriliseerde bottels en verseël dadelik.
Nota: Piekel verwys na groente of vrugte (of ’n mengsel daarvan) wat in ’n speseryerige asynsous ingelê word, teenoor pekel, wat ’n soutoplossing is wat byvoorbeeld vir ham gebruik word.

So is die lewe

0

Alles moes foutloos wees. Diè trommel is heel eerste gelaai.
Drie wesens in Een?

eMbalenhle SAPS investigating a rape case

0

eMbalenhle police are yet to make an arrest after a rape case was opened by a 15-year-old girl.
It is alleged that the perpetrator tried to rape the girl twice before in Ext 15. The exact date of the incident could not be remembered by the victim but she said that the suspect asked her and her friend to go with him to the shops. When they returned, he asked them to help him drop off his groceries at his home. That was when he tried to rape her. According to the information available, the victim was at the suspect’s home for a visit when he started to undress her and allegedly rape her but was disturbed by another person who wishes to remain anonymous. A rape case was opened and the case was referred to the Family Violence and Child Protection Unit for further investigations. – Sandile Mkhwanazi

Fully developed foetus found in eMbalenhle

0

The eMbalenhle community discovered remains of a fully developed foetus.
Some of the community members said that the foetus looked around 8 months old. In 2019 many fully developed foeti were discovered in and around eMbalenhle. The Bulletin reported on the high number of illegal abortions that occurred in the township in October 2019.
On Friday, 25 January, the community from Mandela Section were shocked when one of the sewers was blocked. They tried to unblock the sewer but found a fully developed foetus, the cause of the blockage.
SAPS and ambulances were called to the scene and upon their arrival they made a declaration of death.
At this point it could not be confirmed if a case was opened at the police nor what type of case.
People are encouraged to visit clinics should they need counselling because it is clear that there is a lack of knowledge which could be the reason behind all of the abortions.
The Department of Health should engage with communities and reach out to school kids. #STOPillegalabortions – Sandile Mkhwanazi

Security company under scrutiny

0

Sniper Protection Services made headline news this past week. Not for good work done, but by being accused of allowing untrained and unregistered security guards to operate, some of them underaged.
Sniper Protection Services is also accused of assaulting employees and working excessive hours.
The Bulletin spoke to Adriaan Keyser on Sunday afternoon. Adriaan is a former employee of Sniper Protection Services and worked in Bethal.
When asked about training Adriaan responded that they received no training whatsoever.
“We also did not have any weapons to protect ourselves with most of the time,” he said. “We are also not registered anywhere.”
He further stated that when they were given weapons, it would normally be a sword and sometimes a bow and arrows, but normally they would not have any weapons to defend themselves with.
Adriaan also said that they had to guard sites without any backup or weapons.
In the initial article by ENCA it is stated that South Africa has over 9,000 security companies that employ over half a million guards. The actions of these companies, who run them and who they employ warrants greater scrutiny.
The Bulletin is aware of at least one case where a person allegedly discharged a firearm, was allegedly declared unfit to carry a firearm and is now employed by a local security firm.
Adriaan also confirmed the allegations of assault by the owner of Sniper Protection Services. There is a video (e-News) that shows Walter Stander tazing Adriaan because he fell asleep.
Adriaan said that Stander spoke daily about the consequences of sleeping on duty.
“Stander would either taze or beat us,” Keyser said.
A former employee stated that he was 17-years-old and worked for the company for five months.
He said that Stander insisted on being called “the General” by the security staff and they had to work twelve-hour shifts, sometimes multiple shifts in a row.
“Stander’s wife was called Brigadier.”
He and many others say they were never paid overtime.
Keyser said also said that this treatment wasn’t isolated.
Yet another former employee, DJ van Straaten said: “Stander demanded you to work permanently without any leave allowed. If you take a day off, it’s deducted from your pay.”
Stander doesn’t deny employing a 17-year-old, but says he was helping a family.
As for the tazering video, he said that he “gave the guy a fright.”
Walter Stander served time in jail according to e-News.
Walter was convicted of murdering his wife, Maria Ernestina (29), on February 11, 1999 according to the reports.
In a mad rage he battered her to death and assaulted her mother, Aletta Henning, when she tried to help her daughter.
Magistrate Nel found Stander was able to distinguish between right and wrong when he battered his wife.
The initial story can be read here: https://www.news24.com/xArchive/Archive/Pastor-guilty-of-killing-wife-20020829. Stander was a youth pastor at the time.
The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) has done an inspection at Sniper Protection Services and will comment in the coming days.
In a statement dated 23 January, PSIRA stated the following:
Earlier this morning, the Authority had served letters of intention to suspend the registration of both the business and the Director of the security company in his personal capacity.
And:
Furthermore, whilst our investigation is on-going, the Authority will also establish the following important aspects associated with this case:
• The unlawful hiding of faces and/or wearing of masks/balaclavas by Security Officers; which is often used for authorised covert operations;
• Whether the kind of training these Security Officers has been accredited by PSiRA;
• Besides the Industry’s Code of Conduct, establish whether the security service provider has complied or otherwise, with other relevant legislations prohibiting child labour. The Code of Conduct for Security Service Providers, 2003, prescribes amongst others the following:

  • A security service provider may not perform any act which is calculated to bring the Authority into contempt or disrepute.
  • A security service provider may not act in any manner that threatens or poses an unreasonable risk to the public order or safety.
PSIRA confirmed that they are investigating the allegations above and that their inspectors found several irregularities. PSIRA will release a statement in due course.
The Video of ENCA can be seen here: https://www.enca.com/news/security-companies-under-scrutiny?fbclid=IwAR0r6mjGIwhSZ5GKZSQwOvXzeZu2du9-NeKkFI0pZszCWIwt5F-nqgk5lno.
The Bulletin could not establish contact with Mr Stander to verify the allegations against him.
