School clothes donated to Marietjie school learners by Thungela Isibonelo
Thungela Isibonelo paid a visit to Marietjie School on Wednesday and donated 89 sets of school clothing to some of the learners
The handover started with singing from the learners. It was a pleasure to see how the children enjoyed the singing.
A lot of sign language is used when communicating with the children.
Bongiwe from Thungela Isibonelo explained that “Education is one of our priorities.” before handing the parcels to learners.
Mr Masondo, circuit manager – Highveld ridge west thanked the mine for their generous donation.

Marietjie school has 326 learner and they fall in the PID (Profound intellectually disabled) and SID (Severe intellectually disabled) categories.
They also have 1 for deaf learners and 5 classes for autistic learners.
They teach skill in the following areas for their senior learners
- Potery
- Arts and Crafts
- needlework
- woodwork
- agricultural and
- Food production
As a result of Covid they could not host their very popular yearly Mariki market. But we are assured that it will happen again.
