A 28 year old woman appeared at the Mbibana Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of murder
Nelspruit: 30 December 2021 – A 28-year-old woman appeared at the Mbibana Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of murder today.
She was arrested on Tuesday, 28 December 2021, by police at Mmamethlake in connection with the murder of her 21-month-old daughter, whose body was discovered in a shallow grave, at Phake Rebone grazing field.
According to the information, it is alleged that the child had been missing since Friday, 24 December 2021, after she left home with the woman.
Her family and friends then became suspicious when she returned home without the child. She further fuelled suspicion when she could not provide an answer about the whereabouts of the child. The family then went to the police station, reported the child missing and an investigation was launched as well as a search for the child conducted with the assistance of the community.

On Tuesday morning, 28 December 2021, police were called to the said grazing field and upon arrival found community members who directed them to a shallow grave, where they discovered the child’s lifeless body. Medical personnel were also called to the scene and certified the child dead.
A murder case was opened and the woman was swiftly arrested in connection with the incident.
The Police management in the province, under the leadership of the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has strongly condemned the incident and called upon members of the community to treat their children with care and not harm them.
The General further expressed shock more so as it seems children are dying at the hands of those who are entrusted to care for and protect them.
The woman has been remanded in custody until January 4, 2022
