Police massive drug seizure in Standerton

Nelspruit: 13 October 2022 – A Massive drug seizure was conducted in Standerton. A well co-ordinated Crime Intelligent driven information was operationalised in Standerton by both Standerton K9 and Secunda K9 Units Yesterday, Wednesday 12 October 2022 which led to the recovery of narcotics.

What was portrayed as a Supermarket at Standerton’s Extension 6, was discovered to be actually used by suspects as a drug hub. Following up on the information received, police successfully arrested Mr Deginet Petros, aged 18 who is an Ethiopian national and was reportedly found in possession of about 820 suspected Mandrax tablets weighing about 1164 grams. The suspected drugs are estimated to be at the street value of about R125 000.

The tables are said to have been allegedly concealed inside a Cremora box. The suspect appeared at the Standerton Magistrate’s Court today, 13 October 2022 facing a charge of dealing drugs. During his appearance, the case was postponed to 18 October 2022 for a formal bail application meanwhile he remained in custody. The investigation is also ascertaining his status in the Republic of South Africa and police are working in conjunction with the Department of Home Affairs on this matter.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has appreciated members of the community for having blown the whistle on criminal activities. “When we continue to work together, then we can increase our speed in clamping down on drug trafficking activities thereby ensuring that perpetrators are to book,” said the General.
