Mpumalanga Police have launched a manhunt following the discovery of a foetus in a dumping site at Siyabuswa near Kwamhlanga on Wednesday, 13 May.
The report indicates that two employees from Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality, who are responsible for waste management, were busy with their routine duties at the dumping site when they noticed a plastic bag which was strangely wrapped. They opened the bag and found a foetus inside and swiftly reported the matter to the police.
Police rushed to the scene and other role players were summoned, a case of concealment of birth was opened. Preliminary investigation suggests that the foetus was possibly dumped on the evening of Tuesday, 12 May. No arrest has been made in this regard.
The Provincial Commissioner has strongly condemned the incident and has urged members of the public to provide police with information that can help in arresting the perpetrator of this crime. “This is yet another sad story where an innocent life was cut short possibly by the biological mother before it could even begin. These kinds of incidents are heart-breaking. Mothers who are going through any challenges are encouraged to seek help at relevant institutions so as to prevent such incidents,” said General Zuma.
