Companies from Govan Mbeki Municipality, as well as individuals, have taken the plight of the homeless to heart.

Donations have been steadily delivered to the shelter in the Kinross Lapa. There were a few challenges when the shelter was opened but now it is getting into a working rhythm. Homeless are being picked up and brought to the shelter several times during the day.

We are now on Day 3 and the shelter is now housing about 80 people. This is almost at capacity. Other shelters are being identified but it will only be announced in due course.

Donations are still needed as the supplies might periodically run out.

Here are some of the donors that made a difference so far. Sasol Mining for the donation of 68 beds. A&E groceries donating mealie meal. Evander Petroleum and Gas, contributing all disinfectants, cleaning products and gas heaters. Light House Church for ingredients to make soup. Mental Health made a food donation. Residents from Secunda who donated clothes and tinned food as well as coffee mugs. Sabers and Superspar also made donations. Woolworths also promised donations.

Thank you to everyone for your effort. Further donations can still be made as the weeks are progressing.

The Coronavirus affected all of us, more so the homeless as all their possible sources of food etc are now either staying at home or are not open.
