POLICE OPERATION PRODUCED GOOD RESULTS

Nelspruit: 28 March 2022 – The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has appreciated the operation carried out by members at Phola and Ogies SAPS which produced good results between Thursday, 24 March 2022 and Sunday, 27 March 2022.

The said operation targeted Phola and Ogies areas, stop-and-searches were then conducted. 14 suspects, aged between 19 and 50 were arrested on several charges, including unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition where about four (04) firearms were seized as well as seven (07) ammunition recovered. One (01) revolver with 6 ammunition was also confiscated during the said operation.

Further than that, the astute members arrested the suspects on charges of being in possession of 5 stolen vehicles which were seized for enquiry and for further investigation. 3 gambling machines were some of the items that were seized as well and a fine was issued to the owner. A 23-year-old suspect was arrested for common assault common but he was released on a warning. Eight (08) suspects were also nabbed for consuming liquor in a public space as well as for contravening the Liquor Licensing Act 5 of 2005 meanwhile fines were issued to that effect.

In addition, liquor was confiscated and an owner of a liquor outlet was issued for selling liquor without a license. Whilst conducting the said operation, members came across a man who is alleged to have no official documents of being in South Africa hence he was arrested for contravening the Immigration Act. The police are in liaison with the Department of Home Affairs which will determine his status in the country.

One suspect, aged 27 is expected to appear before the Ogies Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 29 March 2022, facing charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and malicious damage to property.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has reiterated the stunt by SAPS in the province to ensure safety for all citizens. “It is these types of collective efforts by the members which will lead us to our ideal goal of safety for all,” said the General.
