GMM receives safety and emergency equipment from Sasol

Sasol contributes safety and emergency equipment to the Govan Mbeki Municipality

On 19 June 2023, Sasol delivered safety and emergency equipment to the Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM) at a handover ceremony in Secunda. This contribution is aimed at boosting the capacity of municipal emergency response.

With a total value of over R500,000, the equipment consists of breathing apparatus cylinders, emergency radios, and portable speed cameras. These will equip the emergency services department personnel to respond efficiently to fires and other accidents.  

At the handover ceremony, Sasol committed to carrying the cost of maintaining the emergency radios and external antennae.

Keeping employees and communities safe is one of the pillars of Sasol, and today’s handover ceremony is a continuation of a long-standing relationship of working together with GMM to improve the safety and livelihood of the community.

Speaking at the event, Sasol Head of Community Affairs, Mashudu Ndou said: “The assets that we are donating today have the potential to enhance revenue collection for the council and curb road accidents.”

GMM Executive Mayor, Councillor Nhlakanipho Zuma said: “We appreciate this gesture by Sasol, and hope that the equipment will improve our emergency management service offering.

Previous contributions by Sasol to GMM include the revamping of the Leandra sewerage project, power supply infrastructure upgrades, and pothole repairs across the municipal area.
