Confusion is everywhere when it comes to the current vaccinations against COVID.

The Bulletin spoke to Me Madala Ndlovu, CEO of Evander hospital, to see if we could obtain more clarity on the matter.

The current vaccinations are aimed at people over 60. You don’t even need to register, the very capable staff at the vaccination centres will be able to do for you but registering will take less time at the centre.

All you need to do is to go to the vaccination centre and follow the queue. Bring your ID to prove that you are 60 and older.

The line of people waiting for their vaccinations moves at a fast pace. When we visited the centre at Lilian Ngoyi (Secunda) today we waited for about 20 minutes to have a colleague vaccinated. While we were outside some came out and said that they only took 10 minutes to complete the process.

“No reference number is required,” said Ndlovu, “any communication to show that you registered will do. If you did not manage to complete the process you can come to the centre and we will assist you.” There are computers at the centre manned by competent staff to assist.

The registration process is to generate a unique code for every person.

“This is the Pfizer vaccination; the second vaccination will have to be done after 42 days.” She continued.

No appointment is needed to obtain the vaccination.

The first rollout of the vaccination was done for healthcare workers and that phase is almost done.

Vaccination schedule

As the people received their vaccinations there was a lot of praise for the efficiency and the manner that the vaccinations were done.

The centres are open from 09H30 until 16H00

If you are travelling and need to have a vaccination done you have to ask your travel doctor for the vaccination.
