Secunda, Mpumalanga – The 40th Sasol Secunda Marathon is taking place on Saturday, 15 February. The race is a Comrades and Two Oceans qualifier and in 2019 attracted 1 600 participants. Entries for this upcoming race are coming in fast.
For the past 40 years since its establishment, the race level has improved year after year. The starting time of the marathon is 06:00 at the Sasol Recreation Club on Nelson Mandela Drive in Secunda.
This race is one of the initiatives for Sasol to promote healthy living among people of all ages and fitness levels. The event comprises three major races: a 42.2 km full marathon, a 21.1 km half marathon and a 10km run. Families and beginners are encouraged to participate for pleasure in the 4.5 km fun run.
The event is such an attraction that it brings the Secunda town roads to a halt with excited participants and spectators. There will be water points at every 2.5-3 km along the route manned by Sasol employees.
All athletes who finish the race for which they entered within the respective cut-off times will receive a medal. Total prize monies this year will be R35 000 with the winners of the marathon and half marathon receiving R2 500 and R1 500 respectively.

• Trichardt Road
