Secunda Police, The Bulletin, Secunda, Community catches rapist

A woman narrowly escaped from the clutches of an alleged rapist yesterday afternoon by biting her attacker’s hand.
According to Lt Bettina Zondo, spokesman of Secunda Police, the woman alighted from a taxi in Secunda at about 17:00 and was walking home when the man began following her.
He said he “wants to propose his love to her (sic)”.
She ignored him and kept on walking.
He then grabbed and forced her down to the ground.
The suspect tried to pull up her skirt while covering her mouth with his other hand to prevent her from screaming.
This is when she sank her teeth into his hand, forcing him to loosen his grip on her.
She screamed for help.
Civilians who heard her plight chased after the suspect.
Others joined the first group and eventually caught the alleged rapist.
They handed him over to the police.
“We want to thank the community for helping us,” said Lt Zondo.
The 41-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of attempted rape and common robbery as he took the woman’s cell phone.
He will appear in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
