Police are looking for information that could lead to the arrest of suspects who shot dead a Branch Secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) at Pan Africanist Resources, Evander Gold Mine, on Saturday (22 April).
Mduduzi Simelane (55) was murdered a few meters from his home in Leandra at about 06:50 on Saturday.
He was on his way to work when he was gunned down.
After hearing a number of gunshots fired, witnesses spotted a white Toyota Yaris with its registration plate shielded was spotted fleeing the scene at a high speed.
Brigadier Leonard Hlathi of the Mpumalanga Hawks said the reason for the assassination is still unknown.
The police have opened a murder case.
