    Rapist and thieves escape from police custody

    Five awaiting trial suspects, including a rapist, escaped from the Secunda Police Station holding cell around 10:00 on 8 April 2017.
    The suspects who are reported to have jumped the fence, were seen by a member of the community at the station perimeter running away.
    The circumstances surrounding their escape remains a subject of investigation. Police have in the meantime launched a manhunt for the escapees and their particulars are as follows:
    1.Karabo Mkhwanazi 29 years old, was arrested for shoplifting.
    2.Buti Absalom Nxumalo 26 years old, was arrested for shoplifting.
    3.Fanyana Vincent Jiyane 30 years old, suspect was arrested for rape and common robbery.
    4.Siyanda Dlamini 34 years old, was arrested for shoplifting.
    5.Dumisani Simon Hlatshwayo 31 years old, was also arrested for shoplifting, however was rearrested shortly after he escaped.
    The Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma has issued an instruction to the police at Secunda that they must make sure that the escapees are captured soon before they cause more harm to the community.
    If the suspects are seen, the community is warned not to confront them but contact Detective Lieutenant Colonel Dumisani Mbokane at 082556 5630, or the crime stop number at 08600 10111 or the nearest police station for information.
