Former Kriel Councillor arrested for fraud


A former councillor of Kriel, Zingisa Cameron Mbuku (60) and Phike Mahlangu (48), (husband of a councillor) were arrested by the Hawks on Monday, 6 March for fraud and money laundering to an estimated value of R1.6 million.
The two suspects are the outstanding two of four who were arrested on Wednesday, 15 February during an operation whereby a warrant of arrest was executed for the arrest of four suspects of eMalahleni Municipality.
The other suspects who were arrested are from eMalahleni Municipality and were granted R5 000 bail.
Their case was postphoned to 21 April.
Mbuku and Mahlangu appeared in the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 6 March and were granted R2 000 bail each.
Their case was also postphoned to 21 April.
It is alleged that the suspects embezzled money in 2013.
