Conscious Malicious Destruction

To see the evidence of the wanton destruction of plants makes a mockery of the hard and diligent work that was done and still is done by Sasol’s social programme and the input of time and labour by concerned citizens.

The wilful or malicious destruction or defacement of public or private property is according to the Merriam Webster of Dictionary “vandalism.”
The word “vandalism” and many descriptive additives placed in front or behind this word do not describe the malevolent and excessive destruction that was done to the Alwyn plants along the narrow-gauge railway track at the Eendjiedam.
What made this destruction more compelling are the accusations, that some of the youth that live among us in Secunda are responsible for this act of fauna and flora ruin.
If one makes the assumption that a reasonable amount is the youth’s responsible, fathers and or mother are employed by Sasol, then it can be argued that these young adults are turning their backs on their parents’ social responsibilities programme, of which they are part, while in the employment of Sasol.
The Eendjiedam is visited every day and weekend by umpteen dads, moms and their children. This park was established to be enjoyed and it is not an exclusive park to be appreciated by all.
To see the evidence of the wanton destruction of plants makes a mockery of the hard and diligent work that was done and still is done by Sasol’s social programme and the input of time and labour by concerned citizens.
If the culprits will ever be found and brought to book, remains to be seen, as they conveniently hide behind animosity and to split on them will bring repercussions to the whistle blowers. – Aart Reedijk
