The Cosmos 3-in-1 kicked off in cool weather on Saturday morning. It was to be a race in the Cosmos that started to bloom but it also proved to be a tough race. Three races took place during the day with a 70km race through the country side. The second race (33km) took place around noon and the day ended with a lap race. The lap race is always completed at a blistering pace.
717 cyclists entered the Cosmos 3-in-1 and 135 cyclists entered the fun ride.
Jan Withaar was crowned the overall men’s winner. Janika Smit became the women’s champion when she won the overall Cosmos 3-in-1.
The water points had to look after the rider’s liquid intakes and KISME won the best water point prize with Recovery Smoothies and Chill Lounges. They even provided a physiotherapist to help massage the weary legs.
There were different Chill Zones at the end of the race from the different sponsors to help the riders relax.
The following sponsors need to be mentioned and thanked. Without them an event such as this cannot be possible: Sasol, Prommac, Proconics, Megchem, EOH, Kijima, Kisme, Talisman, Lead EPC and Lake Umuzi. The organisers would also express their gratitude to all the farmers that hosted the race. They are the most important part of the preparations.

Janika Smit was crowned the overall women’s winner.
