Sasol Glug Glug qualifies for Mpumalanga play offs

Unfortunately and by fluke, Bianca was caught out early in the match and Terry-Lee Kleynhans took to the pitch.

At 08:00 on Sunday morning, 3 March, the ladies of Sasol Glug Glug cricket team gathered for their warm up for the match ahead.
The 1st and 2nd teams were supposed to play, but due to unknown reasons the Piet Retief team pulled out at the last minute. The Mkhondo Mighty Eagles team (a development team) was alerted that their T20 match would be earlier and they arrived at 09:15 after a two-hour drive.
Once the Mkhondo Mighty Eagles team was warmed up and ready to rumble, the two captains (Terry-Lee Kleynhans (Sasol) and Mzizi Ntokoza (Mighty Eagles)) tossed the coin and Mkhondo Mighty Eagles decided to field first. The Sasol Glug Glug ladies were excited to start batting. They had a strong starting line up with Brigitte Binneman and Bianca Brummer. Unfortunately and by fluke, Bianca was caught out early in the match and Terry-Lee Kleynhans took to the pitch. The Mkhondo Mighty Eagles managed to take four of Sasol Glug Glug’s wickets before Mariska Scholtz and Jacolien du Preez held the fort until all the overs were bowled. The Sasol Glug Glug ladies had hit 130/4 in 20 overs and had to field next. The bowling was opened by Jacolien du Preez and Elizma Heydenreich on a standard pitch. At first the Sasol Glug Glug ladies struggled to get their pace with bowling and fielding, but once Chantelle Obermeyer took the first wicket, they were on fire. Thobeka Mhlongo almost had a lucky drop of the ball when Elizma Heydenreich at silly point leaped into the air and tried to catch Thobeka but the ball slipped through her fingers… But never fear when Mariska Scholtz is near! Mariska reacted so fast and caught the ball one handed for another wicket! That was definitely the play of the match and phenomenal teamwork! Mkhondo Mighty Eagles were out for 85/7 and Brigitte Binneman was awarded the Woman of the Match Award. The Sasol Glug Glug ladies showed the true meaning of sportmanship by applauding each new batswoman coming onto the pitch and assisting in tying shoelaces and fixing leg pads when needed. The Mkhondo Mighty Eagles put up a good fight and we wish them all best. The Sasol Glug Glug ladies are now waiting to hear who will be their next victims: Witbank, Middelburg or Nelspruit to play in the Mpumalanga play offs and be crowned as the best club in Mpumalanga.
