Two lamp posts in Schnetler Street (Trichardt) have been a thorn in the proverbial flesh for residents in this street. The Bulletin reported in the 11 January edition about the repairs that had been done to the lamp posts. The saga continues, however, as the lamp posts are tilting again. During the repairs of the lamp posts, the sewer line was damaged. Sewage is now a constant problem that everyone is facing on a daily basis. No repairs had been made and all pleas fell on deaf ears. DA Ward Councillor Ciska Jordaan has been facing a barrage of requests by residents. Ciska decided to escalate the problem to higher authority. Angel Kanyile, DA MP, visited the site with Ciska and was appalled by the smell and shockingly poor workmanship. “I will definitely pass this on to my colleagues that sit on the portfolio for COGTA,” said Angel, “It is unacceptable to live like this.” The sewer water is also weakening the base of the poles. The sewer and lack of proper foundation for the poles will lead to the tilting of the poles for a second time, increasing the risk of electrocution as the cables could be touching a resident’s house roof.
