Last year four ladies from Secunda were invited to the Sun City Ladies Tournament which is held every year in September.
The format was a 4 Ball Alliance with two scores to count. The tournament was spread over two days and there were 88 participants. The first day was played at the prestigious Gary Player Course where the international Nedbank Golf Challenge is held annually. The team that played were Anli Prinsloo, Lucille Lyon, Wilma van Rensburg and Sandra Spies. On the first day, the ladies walked 18 holes in scorching heat and had to contend with blustery winds. The ladies were fortunate enough to use golf carts on the second day at the Lost City Course.
It was a wonderful experience for the ladies as most of their golf is played in the Highveld area. Sadly, their battle with the newly implemented handicap system, challenging slopes and courses proved a little unsettling. However, they managed to submit an admirably handy score, but unfortunately, it was not enough to be in the top 4. The team that won has won it twice in a row. Perhaps next year ladies! Above all, friendships were cemented and fun was had!
