Accident etiquette:
If you are the first on an accident scene, phone your local ambulance, police or fire department.
Do not phone the family or friends! There are trained people to handle that situation. Today the family were phoned by tow-in operators while the Chaplain on the scene was trying to contact them.
Do not take photos and videos and do not post them on Facebook. Leave that for the media and other officials. There are guidelines to what can be posted. You wouldn’t want to be notified on Facebook about your family’s accidents or even death.
Do not try and move anybody until trained personnel arrive.
Hand over to EMS as soon as they arrive.
Regulate traffic from causing more chaos if possible and you are not endangering yourself.
If you are driving past, please keep moving. Put your cell phones away and do not take pictures.
Please follow all orders of personnel on the scene.
Try and stay calm.
