A 10-year-old boy drowned in eMbalenhle on Saturday, 24 March. He and five of his friends were playing near the banks of a river near Gate 3 when he fell into the water and was carried downstream by the heavy current, a result of recent rainfall.
DA Councillor, Annitah Zodwa heard screaming and commotion around 2pm when residents began shouting that a child was drowning. She then alerted the police, who dispatched divers from Secunda Diving Unit/Delta 1 Rescue Unit to look for the boy.
His body was found near Gate 6.
Distraught at the loss of his beloved son, his father called him a bright and clever child.
