The official opening of KI Twala Secondary School’s new hall was a festive occasion. Students, teachers and sponsors gathered at the eMbalenhle school on 5 March 2018, filling the day with song, dance and gratitude.
The opening began with entrancing traditional performances by KI Twala learners, followed by the ribbon cutting ceremony. The KI Twala Choir christened the hall with a moving performance, which made way for the thanksgiving speeches that concluded the proceedings.
The newly built hall is an initiative of the Southern Highveld Community Development Trust (SHCDT). With programmes that aim to empower the youth through education, the trust is sponsored by Graceland Hotel Casino and Country Club.
JP Mlangeni, the SHCD trustee chairperson, said that the donation would be an enhancement to the already good work of the school. The hall will be used to write exams, facilitate school events and accommodate large classes.
Nontuthuzelo Thwala, a representative from KI Twala, said that the hall exceeded all expectations. “When we made this request, we only asked for a shelter,” she said. The SHCDT, however, remained one step ahead. Thwala also mentioned plans to further the positive donation by adding flooring to the hall in the near future, as well as acquiring desks that the students could use in the building. – Rorisang Rathebe
