Five of the six suspects that were arrested for the attack and subsequent murder of Kort Hans Meyer, appeared in the Secunda court on 21 February.
Hans was shot twice during a farm attack on his farm, Vogelvlei, near Charl Cilliers on 16 February. According to an official police statement, the suspects were supposed to appear in Evander Magistrate Court on 20 February, but investigations were still ongoing.
The main suspect, Tshepo Molefe (35), worked and stayed on the farm. He remains in custody with the other two main suspects, Bheki Hadebe (36) and Shadrack Tshabalala (35) and will apply for bail on 5 March. They have all applied for legal aid.
Michael Sihakane (39), who was released on R5 000 bail, will appear alongside the main suspects in March. He originally applied to get his bail reduced to R3 000, but the Magistrate said that the severity of the charges dictates a R5 000 bail. His charges revolve around the purchase and possession of firearms and other charges.
Mlekelu Tungo was released by the court, pending further investigation.
The 6th suspect, a woman, was released before appearing in court after she apparently picked up a cell phone connected to the attack. The suspects admitted to throwing away the phone.
