“We need to come together in 2019 to rescue our country from the ANC, otherwise we will become another Zimbabwe.”
The municipality owes the provincial licensing offices R120 million and according to DA councillor, Encee van Huyssteen, this amount was R68 million, but the mayor said the provincial office was going to write it off.
The municipality owes Rand Water R71 million and R21 million for water and sewerage.
Protesters gathered outside the council offices on Thursday (27 July) during a council meeting and security guards locked the gates to the council chambers.
They were allegedly protesting because the mayor, Florence Maboa-Boltman did not attend a meeting and they were not able to voice their concerns.
Rumours have it that the names of the former municipal manager, Mmela Mahlangu and former chief financial officer, Johnny Mokgatsi, are on a shortlist for candidates being considered for the position of Municipal Manager.
“We cannot afford to have these two back, they were part of the problem,” said Encee.
He also said the project Kodiko, initiated by the mayor, is a total failure.
