Fanyana grew up around eMbalenhle.
He only started school at the age of 12 years old because he lived on a farm and there were no schools near the farm.

He only finished matric when he was 22 years old and he wanted to be a lawyer with all his heart, but his parents never had the money to send him to university.
After matric, he bought, repaired and then resold old vehicles.
He also tried his hand in the music industry and organised several gospel concerts.
Soccer is one of Fanyana’s passions. He owns a local soccer club, The Secunda Stars, and is also a member of the National Executive of the South African Football Association.
