Angry residents took to the streets and protested on the R29 road between Kinross and Leandra on Wednesday, 22 March.
They blocked the road by throwing stones and burning tyres.
This came after Govan Mbeki Municipality has gone out in full swing to disconnect electricity and water supply.
According to Bheki Kubheka, Acting Head of Marketing and Communications at Govan Mbeki Municipality, the municipality has embarked on a debt collection operation called Koleka di Koloto (Kodiko) and started disconnecting supply to businesses that are not paying their municipal accounts.
“The operation is an ongoing process and the next phase will involve cutting electricity and restricting water on households owing municipal services,” said Bheki.
“Consumers are encouraged to approach the municipality and pay their outstanding accounts to avoid cut-offs.
“The non-payment of municipal services has a direct adverse impact on service delivery.”
