School books belonging to Grade 4 learners found on an accident scene near Evander yesterday, led the police to believe the young brunette trapped in the overturned Corsa bakkie must have been a primary teacher.
The 24-year-old teacher taught English and Life Skills for Grade 4 pupils at TP Stratten Primary School since the beginning of this year.
Marica Hand died on her way to Secunda yesterday when her vehicle run off the road near the turn off to the SPCA, overturned and rolled several times. Marica was travelling on the right side of the double lane road between Evander and Secunda. According to an eyewitness, Marica swerved out to the left for a truck that was allegedly stationary in the right hand-lane at the crossroad between the entrances to the Unicor Dam and the SPCA.
Paramedics from Langamed South and ER24 responded to the emergency call, but Marica was declared dead on the scene. The police will be interviewing the eyewitness today.
