Sasol award achievers

Franli van Tiddens and Heloïze Hattingh from Hoërskool Secunda each obtained seven distinctions. They could not attend the 2016 Sasol matric awards function last Friday at Graceland so Franli’s mother, Jani van Tiddens and Heloïze’s teacher, Martie de Beer received their awards on behalf of them.

Sasol rewarded local 2016 Grade 12 top achievers in Mpumalanga on Friday (13 January) at a prestigious event at Graceland Casino.
Sasol hosted the 22nd annual function together with Osizweni Education and Development Centre.
The best performing teachers and schools, especially those who performed well in Mathematics and Science, were also awarded.
Pupils who have obtained three to seven distinctions and overall top achievers from quintile 1-3 (non-fee schools) and quintile 4 schools were awarded.
Each top achiever received R15 000 towards registration at a tertiary institution and pupils who obtained distinctions, received R1 000 for each distinction.
Marinus Sieberhagen, Senior Vice President Secunda Chemicals Operations, said: “Sasol views education as an enabler to improving the lives of those in the communities around its operations. “Through Osizweni Education and Development Centre, the company has dedicated itself to giving full support to the education fraternity.
“This is realised by providing educational support to learners doing science, technology, engineering and mathematics with the intention to enable top performance in these subjects.”
Sasol’s commitment in the education was demonstrated by their partnership with Gert Sibande Regional Department of Education during the Gert Sibande district Grade 12 Awards where the company sponsored Mathematics and Science categories.
Heloïze Hattingh and Franli van Tiddens, both pupils of Hoërskool Secunda, each obtained seven distinctions.
The top five pupils awarded for obtaining the best results in Mathematics and Science are Bhaga Bhavik from Hoërskool Hoogenhout with 97.5%, Christiaan Liebenberg from Hoërskool Secunda with 94%, Heloïze Hattingh from Hoërskool Secunda with 92.5%, Carmen Neethling form Hoërskool Secunda with 91.5% and Franli van Tiddens, also from Hoërskool Secunda with 90%.
Hoërskool Secunda was awarded as the top achieving school in Mathematics and Science with 12 distinctions in Maths and 12 distinctions in Science, as well as the best performing school in the Govan Mbeki municipal area with 99.4%
Hoërskool Secunda’s teachers also excelled. Martie de Beer and Chané van Zyl received awards for being the best teachers in Maths and Magda Viljoen and Liesl Pretorius as best Science teachers.
In the category for Quintile 1,2 and 3 schools, the award for best teachers in Mathematics went to N.A. Tshiswaise, N.F. Vilakazi, S. Melethil and Z.I. Dhedyeha from Thomas Nhlabathi Secondary School.
The award for best teachers in Science in this category went to Q.J.T Chivunga and C. Matambo, also from Thomas Nhlabathi Secondary School.
The 2016 top three most improved schools in the Quantile 1-3 category are Setsheng Secondary School that improved with 33.1%, Kusasalethu Secondary School that improved with 24.8% and AD Nkosi Secondary School that improved with 24.3%.
