Gert Sibande TVET College adopted and implemented a cost curtailment strategy in 2016.
One of the initiatives was to stop the purchases of purified bottle water which cost the college approximately R6 per 500ml bottle.
The college then decided to purchase a water purification system so that municipal water can be further purified to match the quality of bottled water.
The purification system has been piloted at Central Office.
It will be monitored and if successful, it will be rolled out to all campuses.
According to Faith Sibeko, central office employee, the new purification system works extremely well and the water is of better quality than bottled water.
She added that waiting for the purchases of bottled water is now a thing of the past as purified water is readily available at all times.
