The Govan Mbeki Municipality is implementing water rationing in eMbalenhle.
According to Bheki Kubheka, municipal spokesman, the municipality has requested the community to assist with conserving water to reduce the current demand by 15%.
This has not been successful.
“It makes it impossible to keep the reservoirs and pressure towers’ levels above 80%.
“The municipality is now forced to implement water rationing since the current demand outweighs the available water supply.
“At this state the municipality is implementing level two water restrictions with the assistance of the bylaw enforcers throughout the municipality.”
In arears where water at storage is between 40-50%, water will be closed between 22:00 and 04:00 until the reservoir levels are above 50%.
“At the moment Leandra RDP reservoir is affected,” Bekhi said.
The eMbalenhle reservoirs have nothing at storage which makes it difficult to supply water to all the sections.
The following schedule will be implemented in order to ensure that all sections receive water every day.
Planned water interruptions for Ext 14, 15 and 17 will be between 06:00 and 14:00 daily and then from 14:00 to 18:00 on weekends.
Extensions 26, 12, 11,4, 5, 24, 9, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22 will be without water between 14:00- 22:00 daily and from 14:00 to 18:00 on weekends.
The areas that will be without water supply from 22:00 to 06:00 are extensions 16,10, 25, 7, 1, 2, 3 and 8.
This includes the Mall @ eMba.
These areas will also be without water during 18:00 and 22:00 on weekends.
“The Municipality plead with the community to save water and report water leaks.
“Each drop counts – be water wise.”
