Merlin Park Primary School in Kriel is celebrating its 37th birthday on 19 October.
MPP had its beginnings as the Kriel Primary School.
The present buildings were officially opened on 1 October 1978, but before that the Kriel Primary School was housed in classrooms situated in prefabricated Terrapin houses.
The permanent buildings were finally completed in 1979.
On opening day 410 pupils were enrolled.
The school badge depicts the Plough Breaker plant, which is typical to Kriel area.
The school motto comes from the fact that this underground plant gives rise to one of the most beautiful blooms in early spring.
Hence the motto – From Darkness to light.
