Secunda’s air traffic increases this weekend

Secunda Air Field might possibly be the busiest airstrip in the country on Saturday,  1 October.
According to Christoff le Grange, Secunda Flying Club chairman, this airfield will be a bee hive for several hours that day with a steady stream of airplanes taking off and coming in to land.
The air traffic over Secunda will increase from the Friday morning, 30 September, as numerous airplanes are expected to fly in for the start of the Secunda Springfest.
Secunda’s residents, especially those visiting the Lake Umuzi Waterfront on the Friday afternoon will be dazzled by skydivers, chopper flips and a Harvards Air display at sunset.
The Secunda Flying Club members expect more than 40 pilots and their navigators to clock in for the largest navigation rally ever seen this side of the Vaal River.
“In a nav rally pilots are given co-ordinates and maps of a route they must fly within a specific time. The team with the most accurate time will win. Teams will participate in club colours. The winning club and team be receive floating trophies,” said Christoff.
According to Christoff, the airfield will be a sight to behold on the Saturday. Airplane enthusiasts are welcome to visit the airfield for a closer look at these beasts of the sky.  Several stalls will also be in operation.
