Pule Mokhoera, a security guard at the Secunda Nursery, died on Friday, 2 September after he was brutally attacked on Tuesday, 30 August.
According to Willem Moll, owner of the nursery, four men overpowered and tied up the security guard on Tuesday at about 19:00.
He was struck over the head with a cement sculpture, stripped of his security uniform and left for dead in the field near the nursery.
His attackers then returned to the nursery and broke a window. SSS responded and was at the scene within minutes.
One of the men wore the security guard’s uniform and told SSS security guards all was in order.
The SSS security guards however suspected something was wrong and took action, at which point the suspects fled the scene.
Willem and security guards searched for Pule in the field, but could not find him.
Pule was found in the field the next morning, covered with a coat.
He was taken to a local hospital but was later transferred to Muelmed Hospital in Pretoria where he died on Saturday.
This was the fourth burglary at Secunda Nursery in the past three months.
