Multi murderer gets life sentence

The Ermelo High Court sentenced Lucas Cubungu to three life terms in prison, as well as 25 years for murder, attempted murder and assault on 25 August.
Cubungu killed Mzamo Mtyiwazo in Mandela section, eMbalenhle, on 1 February last year.
He stabbed Mtyiwazo in the chest.
Cubungu was arrested and appeared in court in March last year.
He was granted bail, but was arrested again six months later by Sgt Melusi Mthombeni for attacking and assaulting Bontle Pako, also in the Mandela section, accusing her of having pride.
Sifiso Mungwe and Wandile Mali intervened and warned Cubungu to leave Pako alone.
Cubungu fled the scene and later returned and attacked Mungwe and Mali.
Both sustained stab wounds and died at the scene.
Cubungu then also stabbed Thembelani Sibisi and Sibusiso Thomo.
These men were seriously injured, but survived the attack.
Cubungu also stabbed Zamaliphi Mabaso, Nhlanhla Khanyi and Ncedo Mtshakaca who sustained minor injuries.
According Capt Magonseni Nkosi, spokesman of eMbalenhle Police Station, Sgt Mthombeni worked tirelessly and eventually arrested Cubungu three days after the murders and attacks.
He further successfully opposed bail and worked hard to get evidence which led to Cubungu being sentenced to three life sentences for murder, 10 years’ imprisonment for each of the two attempted murders, three years for each of the two grievous bodily harm assault charges and one year for common assault.
