Jason English, (Chief Executive Officer of Prommac) is hyper excited to spend the next CEOSleepOut in 2017 on Robben Island.
This historical site as the 2017 venue was announced at the CEOSleepOut2016 held on Thursday night, 28 July.
Jason handpicked three people he considered exception to join him on the Nelson Mandela bridge.
They are Prommac’s Director Siyabonga Vezi, student Terence Berry, and Lolla Mokoena, SA athlete and matric pupil at Hoërskool Secunda.
This was Jason’s second SleepOut.
This is not just an event to make some of South Africa’s wealthiest and or influencial people aware of the plight of the homeless, but also to expose them to the daily afflictions of a homeless person.
“There is nothing so humbling as having to go to bed underfed and cold.”
Jason explained previously the affects of a night sleeping on the street in winter.
“Your hips ache, your neck gets stiff from the lack of a pillow, your nose and mouth is icy cold and your toes simply cannot get warm.
“A sleeping bag is probably the only item that will keep a homeless person warm and dry at night,” Jason explained.
Among those on the Nelson Mandela bridge with whom Jason, Siyabonga, Terence and Lolla rubbed shoulders were Finance minister Pravin Gordhan, South African Minister of Human Settlement Tokyo Sexwale and Mpho Parks Tau, Mayor of the City of Johannesburg.
Participants had to raise large amounts of money for charity be allowed to take part in the sleepout.
The late start of the event (due to protesting EFF members) and the extreme weather across the country the past few weeks, did not curb Team Prommac’s enthusiasm.
The company’s employees in Secunda simultaneously held their own “SympathySleepOut” outside their new offices in support of their teammates in Johannesburg.
