A tasty travel affair held in the Basement Theatre on Thursday, 9 June raised R15 000 in aid of Gosh4Cancer.
Pierre Jordaan and Encee van Huyssteen organised the event called Taste your way around the World.
Linde van Niekerk and her daughter Elizabeth from Seagull Travel Tours presented a show and tell about their adventures and tours around the globe.
Chef Marietha Marx prepared the eight courses which represented various parts of the world.
These dishes were amicably paired with wine from Wildekrans Wine Estate and finally topped off with rum and Tequila from Latin America and coffee and chocolates from Eastern Europe.
Johan Rademan of RSG was the master of ceremonies.
Gosh4Cancer was founded in 2009 by Adré Muller.
Her mother, Estelle Swart, is the co-director of this non-profit organisation known in the community for helping children with cancer and their families.
These two women have helped many little patients battling cancer as Gosh4Cancer offers the families financial and moral support.
They also started a Spa Princess Day where they take the little cancer patients to a spa for a day to spoil them and let them relax.
Estelle is also involved with the ATKV and her Care Bear project where she collected and donated teddy bears to less fortunate children.
Little did Estelle know then that she would also have to fight cancer.
She was recently diagnosed with cancer in both her kidneys and had an operation on Thursday (16 June) to remove one of the kidneys.
The operation went well and Estelle is still in hospital recovering.
Estelle is positive and believes God will heal her.
“I was obviously shocked at the diagnosis, but my life goes on, I am going to fight,” says Estelle.
“I am not going to give this thief a chance in my life, God is with me and I believe He has already started working in my body. I have peace.”
Estelle is running for DA Ward 18 councillor in the coming municipal elections.
